Observers record detailed information on the gear and fishing activity of the vessels. Observers work on deck on vessels ranging from 30 to 90 on trips roughly ranging from 1 to 45 days collecting data on fish catch and bycatch, and incidental takes such as marine mammals, seabirds and marine turtles. After attending a 3-week paid training in-person training in Galveston, TX observers are deployed from ports throughout the Gulf of Mexico and southern Atlantic states. Gear types assessed include but are not limited to shrimp trawl, bottom longline, modified buoy gear, bandit reel, and handline. Training projected for end of March/ April timeframe.

Accommodations and meal reimbursement during in person session of training are provided.Training includes instructions on sampling protocols, gear, fisheries, fish identification, marine mammal/sea turtle identification, and safety.

This is a challenging job, and candidates must be mentally prepared to be away from home without access to internet or cellular telephone signal for multiple days and often weeks at a time. Candidates must be physically able to handle heavy lifting, working odd hours, and spending long days in rough seas. Many crews speak limited English compounding the effects of loneliness and isolation on long trips. Observing provides an excellent career in marine biology, as observers are widely recognized as being excellent field biologists. A broad range of advancement opportunities are available to those who demonstrate appropriate capabilities. Those opportunities include, but are not limited to, project management, field supervisors, and fieldwork in other programs.

Compensation:Observersstarting pay is $18.96/hour. Eastern Kansas offers abundant outdoor recreational opportunities, including wildlife areas managed by Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP), KDWP’s Walk-In Hunting Access program, and National Refuges that provides opportunities for upland game bird, deer, waterfowl hunting, hiking, and wildlife viewing. Specific Duties:

<li>Provide technical assistance (biology focus) and guidance to private landowners, government agencies, non-government organizations and other groups for USDA NRCS Conservation Programs. The positions will receive training on the USDA NRCS, PF &amp; QF, KDWP, and other local and state programs.</li>
<li>Coordinates the implementation and application of wildlife programs within target landscapes in cooperation with the local NRCS, Conservation District Managers, KDWP Biologists, PF &amp; QF Biologists, and other state partners as appropriate.</li>
<li>Completes contracts, applications, and other required documentation for the conservation programs requiring biological expertise in cooperation with the listed partners.</li>
<li>Communicates program requirements, completes site visits to determine eligibility, and develops contracts/plans for applicants/participants for USDA-NRCS Conservation Programs and other local and state programs.</li>
<li>Performs other related duties as assigned.</li>

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

<li>Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with landowners and partner agencies. </li>

<li>Knowledge of wildlife ecology, grassland, wetland, and early succession habitat management including the ability to utilize various habitat management tools in the development of management plans. </li>
<li>Knowledge of conservation and wildlife habitat programs provided by federal (i.e., Farm Bill, US Fish and Wildlife Service), state, &amp; local entities. In addition, knowledge of how these programs are implemented in an agricultural landscape is desired. </li>
<li>Knowledge of or practical experience with agricultural systems and farming.</li>

Position Title: Research Project Coordinator 
Department: Administration
 Reports To: Clinical Director
POSITION SUMMARY 
The Research Project Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of protocol operation, supervising research assistants, and assisting the Clinical Director in implementing research activities at Tarzana Treatment Centers, Inc. (TTC). 
CATEGORIES OF DUTIES 
1. Monitor recruitment and tracking of research study participants, as well as study records, participant tracking logs, and study regulatory binders.
 2. Assure that interviews with study participants are conducted by research assistants in a timely and ethical manner. 
3. Maintain good working relationships and contact with protocol team members. 
4. Assist research assistants in adhering to study protocols, including the reporting Serious Adverse Events to the appropriate parties as they occur for research study participants. 
5. Prepare for regular visits from Quality Assurance monitors and other regulatory monitors. 
6. Attend protocol trainings, specific measurement trainings, research-oriented trainings, and protocol-related meetings, as necessary.
7. Conduct research assistant duties (data collection, reporting, and participant interviews) as needed, in the event of an absence of research assistant(s). 
8. Provide administrative oversight to RAs, including the completion of e-time, work schedules, time off, and progressive discipline, as needed. 
9. Complete annual Performance Evaluations for research assistants. 
10. Supervise the work activities and quality of work of research assistants. 
11. Attend research meetings, as required. 
12. Participate in TTC committees as needed and required. 
13. Represent TTC at research and community meetings, as required. 
14. Conduct data analyses to assist in internal program evaluation, performance improvement, and research activities.
15. Write reports and discuss or interpret data, as required, to other staff within the organization. 
16. Additional functions as requested by the Clinical Director. 
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE 
Bachelors Degree or Master’s in a social science, with a solid knowledge of research methods. Prior research experience as a research assistant (or a similar position) in behavioral health research studies, essential. Knowledge of computers and statistical software programs such as SPSS. Prior data entry and word processing experience.
