About the Position
Glatfelter Insurance Group is seeking a Director of Data for our Corporate IT Applications Department who will plan, organize and control the use and storage of data across the enterprise. This includes defining and executing a strategy to evolve the organization’s technology and use of data. The position will also champion strong data stewardship and be accountable for both the continued maintenance items, as well as the non-tactical projects. This position is ultimately responsible for applications by encouraging innovation, thought-provoking problem-solving, best practices, and service-oriented mindset.
This position is required to be onsite at our York, PA office.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine and develop best practices approach for all requested assignments, including gathering requirements, developing specifications/code and implementing solutions.
- Establish standards for diagramming, charting and programming procedures.
- Encourage the use of the SDLC process.
- Accountable for ensuring a good working relationship between IT and business units
- Assign, outline and supervise all activities necessary to support applications. This includes managing vendors, analysts, developers, system administrators, and project managers.
- Work with other IT personnel in scheduling and assessing equipment analyses, feasibility studies and systems planning.
- Review and evaluate work of project teams and prepare performance reports. Participate in architectural sessions.
- Train programmers in methods and techniques of programming.
- Review work and evaluate performance of subordinates.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and a professional demeanor and approach in the performance of duties.
- Maintain and encourage a secure systems environment
- Communicates regularly with the immediate supervisor concerning:
- Automation Project status, issues, or problems.
- Status of personal goals.
- Issues regarding technology and the effect on GIG.
- Takes advantage of opportunities for professional growth and continued education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor Degree or equivalent business experience and 5 or more years of experience in programming, analysis and demonstrated project management skills.
- Minimum of 7 years of IT work experience, including (5) years direct supervisory experience.
- Thorough knowledge of the insurance industry including: marketing, underwriting, policy rating and issuance, billing, claims, management reporting and insurance accounting.
- Proven experience with structured techniques in analysis, design, and programming.
- Excellent Project Management skills.
- Subject Matter Expert on Microsoft SQL technology
- Strong understanding of customer service principles.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Must be willing to work off-hours as necessary to meet deadlines or address production issues
- Must be able to communicate with a wide variety of people at all levels (both internal and external) in an excellent manner.
- Must be team-oriented with an ability to effectively manage both organizational and matrix team structures.
- Must be detailed oriented, self-motivated, willing and able to meet strict deadlines and desire to lead projects.
- Must be able to understand the business implications of technological decisions and appreciate that technological solutions must be supportive of business needs and requirements.
- Ability to effectively set priorities and oversee tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Persuasive, encouraging, and motivating.
- Approaches problem solving in a logical, deductive thinking process.
- Preference for analyzing difficult problems and finding solutions.
- Desire to maintain and expand technical and professional knowledge.
