Senior Design Engineer
Location: Remote (US preferred)
Reports to: Chief Design Officer
Compensation:
-
Base: $200,000–$250,000
-
Equity: ~0.25%–1%
Stage: Early-stage, venture-backed (Lightspeed Ventures)
The Opportunity
We're building a new kind of Multiplayer Operating System—a modern chat-first platform that blends communication, creativity, and intelligence. At its core, this is a social system designed to help people build real friendships on the internet, powered by modern LLMs and playful, expressive UX.
This is not another productivity tool or generic chat app.
It's a system where interaction design is the product.
We're looking for a Senior Design Engineer, someone who started as a front-end engineer and evolved into a deeply product-obsessed builder with exceptional design taste. You care about how things feel, not just how they look. You notice the micro-interactions, the pacing, the delight. You ship.
This role is roughly 60% design / 40% engineering and sits directly at the intersection of product, design, and implementation.
What You'll Do
-
Design and build delightful, high-craft user experiences from concept to production
-
Obsess over interaction details, motion, feedback, and polish
-
Partner tightly with engineers and designers—or operate as one
-
Rapidly prototype and ship real features (not just mocks)
-
Use the product daily and proactively surface ideas, improvements, and experiments
-
Help define the product's taste, personality, and experiential bar
-
Contribute to a playful, expressive interface that goes beyond “clean UI”
-
Participate actively in product discussions—your voice and POV matter
Who You Are
This role is for someone who:
-
Started as a front-end engineer and developed strong UX and product instincts over time
-
Thrives in early-stage environments with messy problems and incomplete specs
-
Has exceptionally high standards for craft, quality, and user delight
-
Is product-obsessed, you use an app once and immediately have ideas
-
Loves building fun mechanics, not just functional ones
-
Is a confident self-starter who pushes work forward without heavy management
-
Enjoys being embedded with the team and active in the product itself
Non-Negotiables
-
Strong design taste and craftsmanship
-
Ability to ship production-quality work (not just Figma files)
-
Clear point of view on product and UX—and the ability to articulate it
-
Active participation in the product and team (participation = value)
Team & Culture
You'll be working alongside a deeply experienced, high-bar team with backgrounds from consumer, gaming, and social platforms, including people from companies like Discord, Apple, Google, Twitter, and AAA game studios.
We value:
-
Craft over consensus
-
Momentum over perfection
-
Taste, curiosity, and ownership
-
Builders who care deeply about what they ship
