Cable Installer Level 1
The Cabling Installation Technician is responsible for performing the installation of premise network cabling systems working under the supervision of senior technicians to assist with the physical installation of infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Pulling and routing copper (Cat6/Cat6A) and coaxial cables through conduits, above ceilings, and between walls.
- Read and interpret system installation drawings and design packages, and apply that knowledge to cabling installations
- Label and test premise cabling, connections, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable trays.
- Installing/Mounting of racks, J-hooks, cable trays, Protective Distribution System (PDS) conduit, EMT conduit up to 4inches and equipment enclosures.
- Terminate network jacks and patch panels.
- Performing basic signal tests using multimeters or cable testers to ensure connectivity.
- Keeping workspaces clean and organized, tracking inventory, and maintaining tool kits.
Qualifications & Requirements
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the installation of copper and fiber-optic cable plants is required
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- OSHA 10 certification
- RJ45 connector termination proficiency
- Ability to lift and carry 50–75 lbs.
- Ability to work at heights (up to 40-ft ladders), in confined spaces (attics, crawl spaces) and Aerial and Scissor Lifts.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License
- Excellent vision (to distinguish color-coded wires).
- Ability to follow instruction and work with limited supervision.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred but not required: Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Installer 1 (INST1) or BICSI Installer 2, Copper (INSTC) certification
