About the Opportunity

Legacy Career Solutions has been exclusively retained to identify an experienced Head Grower to lead large-scale horticultural production operations for a premier nursery group with multiple growing facilities across California.

This is a confidential leadership search for a respected organization entering a new phase of quality-focused growth and operational renewal. The selected individual will drive plant quality, propagation standards, and process excellence across all growing yards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage horticultural operations across multiple growing locations (trees, shrubs, and container plants).
• Oversee propagation, cultivation, pest and disease management, irrigation, and fertilization programs.
• Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and staff training programs.
• Direct and mentor yard managers to ensure consistency and production alignment with sales and demand forecasts.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to establish production budgets, quality benchmarks, and performance targets.
• Implement safety and compliance programs (pesticide use, equipment handling, and worker training).
• Drive continuous improvement through innovation, technology, and integrated pest management practices.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• 10+ years of hands-on horticultural growing experience (trees, shrubs, ornamentals, or similar).
• Proven success managing large-scale production across multiple locations.
• Strong background in propagation, quality assurance, and cultivation systems.
• Experienced leader who thrives in an outdoor, hands-on environment.
• Stable work history – not a “job hopper.”
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
• Degree in Horticulture or related field preferred; Certified Arborist a plus.
