The Senior RF Technician must be able to design, program, install, optimize, maintain, troubleshoot and repair Land Mobile Radio (LMR) and associated communications equipment & systems including mobile and portable subscriber units. Successful candidates will be motivated, customer service oriented, highly organized and detail oriented and professional in appearance
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a complex understanding of two-way radio theory and RF propagation characteristics across various frequency bands.
- Perform for Preventive Maintenance, Diagnostics and Troubleshooting using test equipment such as Radio Communications Analyzers, Signal Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, Site Master, and LAN testers
- Install and support Land Mobile Radio communications systems, including complex radio systems for public safety, manufacturing, mining, health care, education and hospitality customers.
- Create high-level programming templates/codeplugs for P25 and DMR Conventional and Trunked Radio Systems.
- Collaborate with Sales and Service Team Members for new proposed system recommendations and designs that align with customer requirements.
- Work both independently and with teams to perform maintenance, installations, modifications, updates and upgrades to complex wireless communications systems, including UHF/VHF, 800/900 MHz systems, dispatch consoles, and microwave systems.
- Install, align, and certify antennas using FDR Test equipment to ensure optimal signal strength and coverage
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues with radio equipment, including signal interference, connectivity problems, and hardware malfunctions
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of installations, maintenance activities, repairs, and system configurations
- Utilize MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) for documentation and reporting purposes.
- Leadership, training and oversight for Junior Technicians.
- Project Management: Coordinate and schedule projects providing timely updates to customers, vendors, contractors and internal teams regarding project status.
- Perform additional assignments and special projects as directed.
Preferred skills and qualifications
- A strong technical aptitude and an ability to grasp concepts and practices quickly
- Associate’s degree (AS/AA), Military or other technical training in the areas of electronics, computers, networking, RF or equivalent work experience (OJT)
- Operational knowledge of RF test equipment such as Radio Communications Analyzers, Signal Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, Site Master, and LAN testers
- Computer and Networking skills.
- A strong customer focus.
- Ability to lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs.
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Resident of Manitowoc, Wisconsin or adjacent community: Relocate before starting work (Required).
Experience and Education
- Four plus years of experience in creating high-level programming code plugs, installing, and servicing complex wireless communications systems, and providing system recommendations.
- Documented Communications/Electronics background. (AS/AA Degree, Military or Other Relevant Certifications)
- Proven experience in operating test equipment (Communications Service Monitors, Watt meters, TDRs, FDRs, Multimeters)
- Must be able to successfully pass and maintain the ability to pass background checks and obtain security clearances, as well as possess and maintain a clean driving record.
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Company will provide additional training, as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability
- Ability to be on-call. (After hours response for critical systems)
- Familiarity with IP networking.
- Familiarity With RF Design and Engineering
- Complex Understanding of Two-Way Radio Theory and RF Propagation Characteristics at Various Frequency Bands
- Must be self-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision.
- Must be able to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.
- Ability to develop and present technical training.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.

Physical Requirements
- Lift, carry and push/pull at least 50 pounds without difficulty.
- Work from ladders, aerial lifts, and other elevations (tower climbing is not a requirement, but is a plus).
- Climb into and out of heavy mobile equipment such as dump trucks, graders, plows etc.
- When on project sites or if performing some types of work activity wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, respirators, earplugs, protective eyewear, gloves, hard hat, steel toed work boots, and high visibility safety apparel.
