Internship Program

POSITION SUMMARY:
As the IT Governance Intern at Community Care Plan, you will play an important role in supporting the Office of the CIO (OCIO) during the annual review and update of our Information Technology (IT) policies and procedures. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain exposure to IT governance in a healthcare insurance environment, participate in policy development, and collaborate with teams across the organization. Your work will help ensure our IT policies remain compliant with internal standards, healthcare regulations, and industry best practices — all in support of our mission to serve our members and protect sensitive health information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in reviewing, editing, and updating IT policies and procedures to align with healthcare regulations, internal requirements, and industry standards.
  • Research emerging trends and best practices in IT governance, data privacy, and cybersecurity (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including Compliance, Legal, and IT Security, to gather feedback for policy development.
  • Help maintain organized documentation and support version control of policy documents.
  • Support internal communication efforts to promote understanding of IT policies and procedures across the organization.
  • Participate in meetings with IT leadership and cross-functional teams to discuss updates and compliance initiatives.
  • Assist with preparing reports and summaries related to policy reviews and audits.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Gain practical experience in IT governance within a healthcare insurance environment.
  • Understand healthcare compliance standards and regulations, including HIPAA and HITECH.
  • Develop skills in policy research, writing, and cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Learn about risk management and the role of IT in safeguarding sensitive member data.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Health Informatics, Cybersecurity, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Interest in healthcare IT policy, compliance, and governance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with IT governance frameworks (e.g., NIST, ITIL, COBIT) or healthcare regulations (HIPAA, HITECH).
  • Exposure to healthcare operations, insurance processes, or data privacy practices.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Eagerness to learn about healthcare IT compliance.


Work Schedule:

Community Care Plan is currently following a hybrid work schedule. The company reserves the right to change the work schedules based on the company needs.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and ability to see color.
