Our client, a respected and long-established medical malpractice defense firm, is looking for a dedicated Legal Assistant to join its team in their White Plains, NY, location. This full-time, direct hire role offers a salary range of $65-80k plus overtime eligibility and comprehensive benefits. After an initial 45-day period, the position includes one remote workday per week. You must be commutable to White Plains. We're seeking a skilled Legal Assistant with hands-on experience supporting litigation attorneys in medical malpractice defense. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced setting, demonstrates exceptional organizational skills, and has a meticulous approach to preparing and managing legal documents. You'll play a vital role in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations while working alongside attorneys dedicated to defending healthcare professionals.
What To Expect as a Legal Assistant
- Support medical malpractice defense attorneys with comprehensive legal and administrative tasks
- Answer and screen phone calls for assigned attorneys
- Prepare, proofread, edit, and finalize legal documents (answers, motions, pleadings, discovery, closing documents, memos, reports, and correspondence)
- Maintain detailed logs to track outstanding documents and deadlines
- Prepare and process invoices and invoice memos
- Draft and send correspondence with transcripts to clients and counsel
- Assist attorneys with scanning, copying, and printing
- Set up devices for attorneys for virtual meetings and court proceedings
- Provide NYSCEF consent for attorneys
- E-file answers, motions, and other legal documents on behalf of attorneys
Qualifications For Success
- Proven experience as a Legal Assistant, Legal Executive Assistant, or Legal Secretary supporting a litigation practice
- Medical malpractice experience required
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, documents, and court filing procedures
- Exceptional proofreading and editing skills, with keen attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Fast-paced office environment with multitasking required
- Familiarity with NYSCEF e-filing procedures is preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal document management systems is required
Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000
