Job Description
Join the Equal Justice Solutions Team: Make a Real Impact with Your Legal Skills
At Equal Justice Solutions (EJS), we are a Christian faith-based organization committed to spreading God’s love through exceptional and healing legal services. Our mission is to address the access to justice crisis and fundamentally transform the legal profession into one centered on mercy, reconciliation, and servant leadership.
We do this through a hybrid practice model, combining commercial litigation, civil rights cases, and pro bono work to serve those in need and fund our rapid growth.
We are seeking a dedicated and mission-driven part-time associate to join our team—someone who shares a strong faith-based commitment to justice and is passionate about making a difference.
Why You Should Apply
- Hybrid Practice: In this role, you’ll handle a wide range of cases. Start your day with commercial litigation in the morning, work on civil rights matters in the evening, and assist pro bono clients over lunch. You’ll have the opportunity to make a significant impact across various areas of law while advancing our mission.
- Faith-Based Mission: We are looking for candidates whose values align with our faith-driven mission to spread God’s love and transform the legal profession. While we are Christian (ecumenical of all traditions--Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, and other), we encourage anyone of any faith or tradition--or none at all--who share this commitment, to apply. Your legal work will reflect our commitment to justice, mercy, and reconciliation, both in the courtroom and in how we serve the marginalized and underrepresented.
- Impactful Advocacy: Work on cases that matter—civil rights, whistleblower protection, consumer advocacy, and standing up to corporate greed. Your work will contribute to public good and challenge powerful adversaries.
- Competitive Pay: Earn $70-$90/hour for attorneys with 3+ years of experience and $35-$50/hour for those with less experience or law clerks. We offer a premium for attorneys experienced in commercial litigation, federal securities law, shareholder derivative/investor protection, or Delaware Chancery Court matters.
- Meaningful Work: You’ll represent whistleblowers, fight for workplace equality, protect consumers, and champion civil rights. You will also assist in building guides for pro se litigants, giving you the opportunity to directly serve those who need help navigating the legal system.
- Growth Potential: We offer opportunities for co-counsel arrangements, fee-sharing models, and the potential for full-time roles for those seeking long-term growth within the organization in the near future.
What We’re Looking For
- Commitment to Our Mission: A strong alignment with our Christian faith-based mission and a desire to address the access-to-justice crisis through mercy, reconciliation, and servant leadership.
- Work Ethic and Accountability: We are looking for individuals who are self-starters, highly motivated, and committed to excellence. You must have a strong work ethic, an eye for detail, and a passion for going above and beyond for justice. Expect to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where you’ll manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Character and Resilience: Integrity, perseverance, and the ability to think creatively to outsmart well-funded adversaries. We expect the highest standards of excellence, and we’re seeking individuals who thrive in an environment that challenges them to grow and achieve.
- Legal Skills: Exceptional research, writing, and critical thinking skills, with a preference for knowledge in commercial litigation, Delaware practice (especially Chancery court experience), corporate governance matters, civil rights, employment law, consumer protection, whistleblower laws, or complex injury cases.
- Experience: Familiarity with discovery, trial prep, and a collaborative virtual work environment. You will be expected to refine your skills, share best practices, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of our practice.
- Pro Bono and Hybrid Work: Flexibility to shift between commercial work in the morning, civil rights cases in the evening, and assisting pro bono clients during the day. Helping build resources for pro se litigants is also a key responsibility.
- Long-Term Commitment: This is not just a job; it’s an opportunity to live out your faith through the practice of law. You’ll be expected to take on significant responsibility, collaborate effectively, and contribute to the future growth of the organization.
How to Apply
If you’re ready to take on challenging, mission-driven work with an organization that is committed to justice, mercy, and servant leadership, then we want to hear from you. But, be warned: this is not an easy job. It will demand a lot, but the impact you make will be life-changing—for your clients, your team, and, hopefully, your own personal growth.
Send your resume and cover letter to info@equaljusticesolutions.org. In your cover letter, tell us why this position aligns with your values and how you can contribute to our mission of transforming the legal profession and spreading God’s love through service.
Note: Equal Justice Solutions is an equal opportunity employer. As part of the interview process, applicants may be asked to complete a brief assessment (60-90 minutes).
