Job Description:
- Verifies identification of horses at receiving barn of racetrack: Checks identifying features, such as tattooed registration number on lip and physical appearance with official records and photographs to ensure only horses scheduled to race are permitted in paddock.
- Releases identified horses to handlers for transfer to paddock for saddling.
- Conduct visual inspections of horses to determine breed, age, gender, and overall health
- Notifies track officials when doubt exists as to horses' identity.
- Records physical changes in horses, such as weight increase or scar received since last inspection, to keep identification records current.
Requirements:
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High School diploma/certified GED
- Must be able to obtain/maintain a Louisiana State Racing License
- Must be able to effectively communicate in English
- Must be able to read and write
- Must be able to work and stand inside and outside, sometimes in heat in excess of 115 degrees or cold as low as 10 degrees.
- Must be able to work flexible schedules due to the needs of the business, including mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, including all racing days.
