Job Description:
Acron Aviation/ACSS is seeking an experienced Senior Hardware Manager to join our Engineering team in our Surveillance Product Line.
The Hardware Engineering Manager will lead a team of electrical, mechanical, RF, and FPGA engineers in the development of advanced surveillance systems for commercial aviation, including Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS), Transponders, and Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems (TAWS). This role requires a dynamic leader with a strong background in electrical, firmware, and RF engineering to drive innovation, ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable products, and work collaboratively with other product lines to maintain consistent processes across the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for the design, development, and implementation of TCAS, Transponder, and TAWS systems.
- Oversee the full hardware development lifecycle, ensuring that all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Collaborate with product management, software engineering, systems engineering, and other stakeholders to define product requirements and roadmaps.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices and processes to enhance productivity and product quality.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, including RTCA/DO-178, DO-254, and others relevant to commercial aviation surveillance systems.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Manage resource allocation, project scheduling, and budgeting for the hardware engineering department.
- Act as the hardware technical liaison with customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies when required.
- Support business development efforts by contributing technical expertise to proposals and customer presentations.
- Work with other product lines to ensure consistent processes, including health status reporting, design and development processes, and tool usage, to improve efficiency and standardization across the organization.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure obsolescence considerations are integrated into new product development processes.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and other relevant departments to implement design modifications or source alternative components to mitigate the impact of obsolescence on our products.
- Travel up to 10%.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of 12 years of experience in hardware engineering, with at least 6 years in a leadership role.
- Experience with product lifecycle management, from concept through production and support.
- Knowledge of relevant compliance and regulatory standards, including RTCA/DO-254.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and inspire a team of engineers.
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical engineering, firmware development, and RF engineering principles.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with certification processes for commercial aviation systems.
- Familiarity with the design and development of TCAS, transponders, and TAWS systems.
