The Project Engineer develops and evaluates designs to meet requirements of specified applications; work may include creation of previously non-existent products or modification of existing products, including product line extensions. Applies engineering principles and practices and draw solutions from a wide range of experience. Defines or captures product technical requirements. Develops verification and validation methods to ensure product meets technical requirements. Develops design FMEAs, performs reliability analysis. Leads cross-functional teams through the new product implementation process. Applies project management practices. Communicates project goals and objectives, including cost, schedule, resource management, technical performance and deliverables. Ensures documents will be produced at each stage of the process and that they conform to regulatory, statutory and stakeholder requirements. Facilitates meetings, conducts Design reviews. Supports Research and Development initiatives.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Follow all safety procedures and always work in a safe manner.
2. Conceptualize products; assist in commercialization.
3. Assist in identifying and organizing requirements. Apply usability procedures and principles at project or product-line level or through customer input.
4. Direct and work with Engineering Technicians to build prototypes, products, and systems for testing; set up and run laboratory simulations.
5. Design testing procedures and coordinate testing. Conduct tests, document results, and develop client presentation.
6. Conduct and/or participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, codes, and other artifacts.
7. Evaluate engineering approaches and risks to produce and iterate development plans.
8. Train and support clients and field representatives.
9. Identify and keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets.
10. Contribute to design standards and support design reuse.
11. Leads cross-functional teams through the new product introduction process.
12. Conduct project management activities such as communicating with external and internal customers design in order to track project cost and schedule milestones, maintain quality assurance processes, and keep the focus on delivering project commitments.
13. Coordinate, resolve, or assist in resolution of conflicts and other issues within and between project and program teams and recommend/provide solutions
14. Prepare reports and other associated project documentation
Job Requirements:
Education: Minimum: BSME or BS ME Technology, Desirable: MSME
Experience: 3-5 yrs experience in design and processing of electro - mechanical assemblies. 5-10 years preferred; ROPS, FOPS, Seat Belt testing knowledge desirable
Skills: Proficient and comprehensive knowledge of defined skill areas/applications to integrate fundamental elements from other specialties into work assignments; apply knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of a particular field of specialization to complete difficult assignments; Strong management and organizational abilities as well as ability to integrate and harmonize diverse functions. Excellent communication…externally (customers) and internally (management, colleagues, sales, operations). Excellent interpersonal skills. Deal effectively at all levels of the company. Self-starter. Motivated, confident and persistent in meeting project goals. Must react effectively to a wide range of situations and issues. Resolve problems in a timely manner; effectively determine appropriate action. High degree of maturity, confidentiality, reason, perspective, flexible.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Work under minimal supervision and be responsible for defining technical approaches to projects. Act as lead on some projects and guide junior level engineers and technicians. Interpret and communicate information, ideas and instructions clearly, accurately and persuasively both verbally and in writing including materials intended for distribution; Incorporate new facts and ideas into group processes and apply creative thinking to develop new solutions.
Equipment to be used: Computer, calculator, general office machines.
Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, bending and reaching. Lifting occasionally limited to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity to operate equipment. Normal range of vision and hearing.
Mental Demands: Ability to analyze and understand many variables and choose the most effective course of action for the organization. Must be creative and handle diverse issues almost daily. Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, strong attention span, ability to listen and perceive underlying problems and bring issues to successful conclusion.
Working Conditions: Typical office setting with regular visits to the factory floor. Occasional travel to customer facilities.
