Description
At Chattanooga College MDTC, the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Department team members help implement our strategy of providing career-focused education that prepares students for meaningful careers in healthcare.
The Adjunct Instructor – Diagnostic Medical Sonography will provide didactic and/or clinical instruction to students enrolled in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program to support student learning, skill development, and successful program completion. This includes responsibilities such as delivering engaging instruction, preparing lesson plans and assessments, mentoring students, and evaluating academic and clinical performance. Ideal candidates must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and a strong commitment to student success. Candidates must be able to adapt to a dynamic instructional environment and manage multiple priorities.
This is an instructional (part-time/adjunct) position supporting the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Department. This role requires considerable interaction with students, faculty, and staff through classroom instruction, clinical supervision, and academic mentoring. Adjunct Instructors are expected to possess extensive knowledge of ultrasound principles, clinical practices, and program-specific curriculum requirements. They must be able to interpret individual student needs, provide personalized academic support, and work effectively with students who may be challenged or stressed.

Salary Range
Competitive adjunct pay; commensurate with experience, credentials, and instructional responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Provides didactic and/or clinical instruction to a diverse population of Diagnostic Medical Sonography students.
- Implements departmental and program objectives related to student learning, engagement, and completion.
- Supports and mentors students through individual and group instruction to address academic and clinical concerns.
- Prepares lesson plans, assignments, and assessments aligned with curriculum and accreditation standards.
- Maintains accurate documentation of student attendance, progress, and performance.
- Completes required professional development and training annually.
- Supports department-wide instructional and program initiatives.
- Maintains accurate records in compliance with institutional, accreditation, and federal requirements.
- Collaborates with faculty and staff to ensure instructional quality and positive student outcomes.
- Provides appropriate referrals or guidance for academic or professional concerns that may impact student success.
- Upholds confidentiality and complies with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and federal regulations.
- Assists with instructional activities related to program events as applicable.
- Utilizes instructional tools, technology, and resources necessary to effectively perform teaching duties.
- Remains current on industry trends, best practices, and research related to sonography and education.
- Collaborates with program leadership and department faculty.

Education & Experience
Education or Training:
• Associate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field
Experience:
• Minimum of four (4) years of clinical experience in ultrasound
• Prior teaching or training experience preferred
Other Requirements
• ARDMS or equivalent credential in one or more specialties (e.g., Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular)
• Commitment to student success and ongoing professional development
• Availability to teach on a flexible, part-time schedule based on course assignments
