MAINTENANCE WORKER



HOURLY:$12.00

Purpose of Classification

This is a temporary non-supervisory position under the direction of the Maintenance & Operations Foreman. Performs technical work in maintenance and operations function. Duties include maintaining supply area, preparing and delivering supplies, maintain inventory of various supply and equipment. Performs technical work in repair and/or maintenance function. Duties include maintaining existing structures and grounds. Positions in this class perform routine maintenance and identify needed corrective actions to resolve discrepancies; answer maintenance questions; and maintain inventory and repair documents and records.

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

May assist with inventory control of department's supplies and equipment.

May assist with preparing and delivery of custodial supplies and equipment to all county buildings.

May assist with maintaining supply and equipment areas. Assists in installing new equipment.

Assists maintenance technicians in assembling, installing, repairing, fillings, reporting, HVAC, electrical, water and sewer systems.

Assists maintenance personnel with problems and ensures timely completion of work; works with power tools in a safe manner.

Maintains tools and machinery in good condition and uses all tools carefully and as instructed; may be expected to operate heavy equipment on occasion.

Maintains buildings and keeps work areas clean; prepares equipment needed to complete work orders.

Performs repairs on all facilities within the County, including restrooms and mechanical equipment, if required.

Performs general landscape duties such as grass mowing, weeding, edging, water landscaped areas, rake leaves, palm tree and plant trimming, and planting trees and plants, if required.

Additional Functions

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED, and have experience in custodianship; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Valid State of Texas Driver's License preferred.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert medium physical effort in medium work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of medium weight (20-50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion at a keyboard or work station.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Exposure to damp/wet surfaces, duty conditions, fumes and odors, flammable liquids and high noise levels.
