Job Summary
Sammamish Presbyterian Church is seeking a part-time Custodian & Facilities Assistant who will provide both high-quality custodial services and basic facilities support for the church campus. This dual-skill role ensures the church remains clean, orderly, safe, and ready for ministry activities while assisting with minor maintenance tasks and coordinating facility-related requests.
This role supports the mission and vision of SPC by maintaining the cleanliness and curb appeal of the church property, responding to facility needs, interacting with vendors, and supporting church programs and rentals.
Responsibilities
Custodial Responsibilities
- Ensure all interior spaces are clean, sanitized, and ministry-ready.
- Vacuum and mop floors; empty trash and recycling; clean and restock restrooms.
- Dust and wipe surfaces; clean interior glass and windows as needed.
- Maintain tidiness in common areas, classrooms, hallways, and worship spaces.
- Monitor and restock custodial supplies.
- Assist with event setup and teardown.
Facilities Support & Coordination
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks (e.g., replacing light bulbs, small fixes).
- Conduct routine building and grounds checks; promptly report issues to the Director of Operations.
- Assist with light outdoor tasks such as sweeping walkways, seasonal cleanup, and occasional weeding.
- Serve as on-site contact for vendors including professional cleaning crews, landscapers, and contractors.
- Respond to minor facility requests from staff and ministry leaders; assist in coordinating solutions.
- Support readiness of spaces for rentals, meetings, and ministry events.
- Monitor building security and basic safety practices during work hours.
- Track and maintain inventory of facility, custodial, and landscaping supplies; notify the Director when restocking is needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior custodial, janitorial, or basic maintenance experience preferred.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to operate custodial equipment and basic hand tools safely and effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, including Outlook email, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and electronic calendaring.
- Strong written communication skills, including clear, professional email writing and accurate interpretation of written instructions and facility requests.
- Ability to work independently, manage time well, and prioritize tasks.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to cleanliness and safety.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with a service-oriented attitude.
- Punctual, reliable, and able to follow established procedures.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Must provide documentation establishing identity and authorization to work in the United States.
Compensation
- Pay Rate: $18 $22 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Future Potential
This part-time role has the potential to grow into a full-time role with benefits, depending on church needs, performance, and expanding responsibilities.
