Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Associate


Location: Hybrid (California)

Compensation: $300,000 – $325,000 DOE + annual discretionary and hours-based bonuses


About the Opportunity

A highly regarded full-service law firm is seeking an experienced Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Associate to join its expanding team. This role offers the chance to work with leading clients across industries — including technology, financial services, hospitality, food and beverage, and creative services — on complex privacy, cybersecurity, and emerging technology matters, including AI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Counsel clients on compliance with CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, HIPAA, GLBA, CIPA, and other state and federal privacy laws.
  • Develop and implement privacy and data protection policies.
  • Advise on emerging AI laws and governance standards, including drafting internal AI policies and contract provisions.
  • Support privacy and cybersecurity aspects of corporate transactions, including due diligence and vendor agreements.
  • Lead data breach response efforts, including regulatory notifications, investigations, and remediation strategies.
  • Represent clients in privacy-related litigation, regulatory actions, and investigations.
  • Monitor evolving privacy and AI regulations, provide practical guidance, and contribute to thought leadership.
  • Collaborate across practice groups and mentor junior attorneys.


Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
  • 5+ years of experience focused on data privacy, cybersecurity, and related regulatory matters.
  • Deep familiarity with CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, HIPAA, CIPA, and other U.S. privacy frameworks.
  • Experience counseling clients on AI laws and compliance programs.
  • Exceptional legal writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience handling privacy-related litigation or regulatory investigations preferred.
  • Active membership in the California State Bar (required).
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $300,000 – $325,000 (based on class year and experience).
