Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team in our main equipment shop located in Butner, NC. This role will involve maintaining and repairing a variety of heavy equipment including Dozers, Loaders, Excavators, Pumps, and more, primarily from top brands like CAT, Komatsu, John Deere, Rokbak, and Hitachi all located in the Raleigh market area.
Heavy Equipment mechanics with experience working in a landfill or waste industries preferred
This is a leadership position that requires not only technical expertise but also the ability to manage and cross-train the current team of technicians. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy equipment repair and be capable of utilizing industry-standard software for diagnostics and maintenance. This is a hands on role.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, including Dozers, Loaders, Excavators, Rollers, Compactors, and Pumps.
- Work with a team of technicians, providing guidance, leadership, and training.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Utilize CAT ET, CAT Vision Link, JD Link, and other diagnostic software for troubleshooting and repairs. This includes after treatment, fuel systems diagnostics and computer programming.
- Maintain a high standard of safety and quality in all work performed.
- Ensure all equipment is serviced and repaired in a timely manner.
- Assist in the development of best practices and standard operating procedures for equipment repairs.
- Work closely with management to schedule repairs and ensure equipment uptime.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience working on heavy equipment required(CAT, Komatsu, John Deere, Rokbak, Hitachi).
- Heavy Equipment mechanics with experience working in a landfill or waste industries preferred
- Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., ASE, Caterpillar, John Deere, etc.) are highly desirable.
- Hydraulic Experience: Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and repair.
- A/C Experience: Experience in repairing and maintaining A/C systems in heavy equipment.
- Welding Experience: Ability to perform basic welding repairs as needed.
- Diagnostic Software Proficiency: CAT ET, CAT Vision Link, JD Link, and other diagnostic tools.
- Leadership: Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role is preferred, with the ability to cross-train other technicians.
- CDL: A valid CDL is a plus.
- Good Communication Skills: Ability to work well with others and communicate effectively with the team and management via phone, email and text is mandatory.

- Hourly Pay: $40 - $50 per hour depending on experience.
- Work Schedule: 50-60 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with alternating Saturdays as needed.
