Job Summary

DJ&A seeks full-time Transportation Design Engineers with 1-10 years of relevant experience. Must have an EIT certificate (minimum). The candidate must be a problem solver, capable of effective communication, and possess analytical and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will be passionate about civil engineering, with experience in road and highway design, trail design, and construction inspection. Must be a motivated self-starter who embraces the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in the western U.S. Must be team-oriented and possess a desire to learn and grow with the company.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in delivering transportation engineering designs for Local, State, and Federal agencies.
  • Provide support for construction administration and inspection tasks, both on-site and in the office, for Local and State projects.
  • Support teams in designing and delivering roadway infrastructure projects that vary in size and complexity.
  • Work on multidisciplinary teams in a leading or supporting role.
  • Provide assistance to our design team as required, which may include using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Bentley MicroStation ORD.
  • Perform detailed CAD design, including roadway geometric design and corridor modeling.
  • Assist in verifying code compliance, performing quality checks, and implementing QA/QC procedures.
  • This position may require occasional travel, including overnight and weekend stays, primarily for construction inspection and site visits. While the primary role is office-based, flexibility to support fieldwork is essential.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation OpenRoads.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Highly proficient analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Independent, self-motivated, results-oriented, and dynamic.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and collaborate with geographically dispersed teams.

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or related engineering field and EIT certificate (minimum).
  • Experience in transportation design, including AASHTO, MUTCD, NACTO, and State DOT Manuals

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to travel to various (and sometimes remote) project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
  • Willingness to work occasional nights or weekends as project schedules require.

  • Wage commensurate with qualifications and experience. (approximately $31.25-$47.00 per hour)
