Security Installation Technician Job Overview
As a security Install Technician, you'll receive hands-on training to install, program, and troubleshoot security and alarm systems in newly built and existing homes. Key Responsibilities for Security Install Technician Careers
- Perform new installations of home security systems and devices in residential properties
- Program security systems for integration with central monitoring stations
- Test and verify all installed devices ensure they are operating safely and reliably
- Educate homeowners on effective system operation and best use practices
- Support retrofitting of new wires and integration with existing home systems
- Maintain accurate records of truck inventory, tools, and parts
- Resolve routine operational challenges for builder clients during installation or maintenance
- Install and configure popular security brands including Honeywell, DSC, Alarm.com, GE, and QOLSYS
- Work with CAT5 and RG6 cabling (installation, termination, and retrofitting)
- Assist with installation of central vacuum and M&S/OnQ intercom systems as needed
- Collaborate with manager for additional projects and tasks as assigned
Qualifications for Security System Technician Jobs
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1+ years of experience in electronics, construction, cable installation, or a related field preferred (but not required)
- Familiarity with home security systems (Honeywell, DSC, Alarm.com, GE, QOLSYS) is a plus
- Residential homebuilding experience is advantageous
- Physical ability to access attics, work on ladders, and transport equipment
- Strong problem-solving, organization, and self-motivation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication; bilingual skills are highly desirable
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
