Job Summary:
The Field Arborist Trainee is an entry-level position designed for individuals interested in learning professional tree care. In this role, youll assist with tree climbing, ground operations, pruning, removals, and equipment handling while learning industry safety standards and best practices. This is a hands-on role focused on training and growth in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
Training in Tree Climbing & Pruning:
- Learn to climb trees using ropes, saddles, and safety gear under direct supervision.
- Assist with pruning trees to improve health, structure, and appearance.
- Support the crew in identifying dead or hazardous limbs and removing them safely.
Support in Tree Removal:
- Help with dismantling trees by supporting rigging operations from the ground.
- Assist with guiding branches and logs safely to the ground.
- Observe and learn proper cutting and removal techniques.
Ground Operations & Equipment Use:
- Operate and maintain basic equipment including rakes, blowers, and chippers.
- Learn to handle chainsaws, pole saws, and hand tools safely and effectively.
- Help keep tools clean, sharp, and ready for daily use.
Safety:
- Follow all safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Learn to identify job site hazards and report them to supervisors.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings, including other team members and equipment.
Job Site Cleanup:
- Remove debris, branches, and wood from the site after each job.
- Help restore the area to a clean and safe condition.
- Support the team in loading trucks and chipping brush.
Qualifications:
- Valid Drivers License
Skills and Abilities:
- Willingness to learn and take instruction in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
- Physical ability to lift heavy material, work at heights, and perform manual labor.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Positive attitude, reliability, and interest in building a career in arboriculture.
