Position Summary
The SQL Developer will collaborate with users from various levels of management and team members to design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines, database objects, and integration processes that support business operations and reporting needs. This role will work across both legacy SQL Server environments and our modern cloud-native data platform, helping drive data quality, accessibility, and performance.
Note: This is an on-site role located at our Chicago studio and is not a remote or hybrid position.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable database solutions and data pipelines across both legacy and modern data platforms, including SQL Server and Snowflake.
- Manage and optimize existing SQL Server environments, including the creation and maintenance of tables, views, stored procedures, functions, and other database objects.
- Support the ongoing development of a modern, cloud-native data platform using tools and technologies such as Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, and Azure.
- Create and maintain robust and efficient ELT/ETL workflows to support data integration, transformation, and delivery across multiple systems.
- Design and implement real-time or near-real-time data flows and pipelines to support business-critical reporting and application integration.
- Collaborate with developers, analysts, architects, and various end users to understand business requirements, translate them into technical solutions, and develop project plans accordingly.
- Ensure data quality and integrity through testing, validation, and proactive monitoring of data processes and jobs.
- Troubleshoot and tune legacy and modern SQL workloads for performance improvements, reliability, and scalability.
- Develop, document, and promote best practices in data development and engineering, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards and reusable design patterns.
- Contribute to the development and enforcement of coding standards, documentation practices, and operational procedures to support ongoing data platform maturity.
- Participate in version control and CI/CD processes using tools such as Git.
- Support and enhance integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms via APIs, files, and other data exchange methods.
Requirements:
Experience and Education
- 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and maintaining database solutions with a focus on performance, scalability, and data integration.
- Requires advanced Transact-SQL skills and hands-on experience writing complex stored procedures, views, and functions in SQL Server.
- Strong knowledge of relational database design, data structures, and query optimization techniques.
- In-depth understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data integration techniques across heterogeneous data systems.
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms and tools such as Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, and Azure Data Services.
- Familiarity with real-time or near-real-time data pipeline design and implementation.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control (e.g., Git), and deployment automation in a data environment.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical abilities.
- Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communications.
- Experience in any of the following is a plus: SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, Salesforce, Dataloader, Tableau, Power BI, Redgate, GIT, Azure, AWS, Power Automate, REST APIs, JSON, IBM iSeries, RPG, Sage, NetSuite.
