Position Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all visitors and staff at the Institute for the Hispanic Family. This includes routine cleaning, minor maintenance, and support for event setups and breakdowns. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and takes pride in keeping public spaces clean and functional.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ DUTIES:
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and disinfect all public areas, restrooms, offices, and meeting rooms.
- Clean and restock restrooms regularly throughout the day.
- Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste according to center procedures.
- Checking the outside of the facility and parking area has no hazards and remains orderly, including but not limited to outside trash bins, washing down walkways, alerting management to parking issues, etc.
- Ensure vendors complete assigned maintenance tasks as scheduled.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks (e.g., replacing light bulbs, hanging items, patching holes, unclogging drains, reporting damage).
- Conduct monthly inspections of the building and document findings.
- Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for events, classes, or meetings.
- Ensure all entrances, hallways, and emergency exits are clean and free of obstructions.
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervisor when restocking is needed.
- Follow health and safety protocols, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Lock/unlock facilities as required.
- Respond promptly to custodial-related requests or facility emergencies.
- Assist with seasonal cleaning and special deep-cleaning projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
PQI Functions:
- Ensure the consistent accurate collection of the data
- Identify patterns and trends of administrative services
- Use results of data to inform supervisor of trends that may impact services
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
- Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safe usage.
- Good time management and ability to work independently or with a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean environment.
SCHEDULE:
- Monday-Friday 11am-7pm with an hour lunch
WORK ENVIROMENT:
- Indoor and occasional outdoor work
- Frequent exposure to cleaning products and physical activity
