Overview:

We are seeking a versatile and proactive Data Center Dispatch Technician to support critical data center operations during technician absences, including vacations, sick leave, or other short-term gaps. This role ensures uninterrupted service by stepping in as needed to maintain operational continuity. Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience in data center environments, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations Support:

Serve as an on-call resource to backfill for absent data center technicians, providing critical support for ongoing operations.
Install, configure, and maintain servers, network devices (switches, routers), and standalone systems as required.
Perform cable patch installations, ensuring proper labeling and documentation according to established standards.
Update and maintain accurate records in inventory management tools and ticketing systems.
As needed, assist with network card, KVM, or DRAC/ILO interface configurations.
Coordinate with vendors for hardware replacements and perform backup tape management.

Troubleshooting and Emergency Response:

Respond to urgent break/fix issues related to network connections, including Ethernet, fiber, and power status checks.
Provide immediate support within ITIL Incident and Problem Management frameworks, including initial troubleshooting and escalation.
Conduct hard reboots and cable swaps to restore services quickly.
Collaborate closely with remote technical teams for efficient issue resolution.

Racking, Stacking, and Inventory Management:

Assist with racking, de-racking, and decommissioning of hardware as needed.
Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure optimal stock levels of critical components.
Support vendor coordination and escort services during maintenance or emergency repairs.

Required Skills and Experience:

Minimum 2+ years of experience in Data Center operations.
Strong understanding of data center infrastructure, including servers, switches, routers, and power systems.
Experience with hands-on cabling and hardware installation.
Ability to work independently, adapt to rapidly changing priorities, and remain composed under pressure.
Strong communication skills and a customer-focused mindset.
Relevant certifications are a plus (e.g., CompTIA Data+ or Network+).
Willingness to work in a 24x7 support model, including nights, weekends, and on-call rotations as needed.
