Job Description
If you are a licensed Texas attorney with a minimum of two years’ experience and you are ready to join a firm that is poised to grow 50% in 2025, then look no further! We are a Professional License Defense Firm seeking a licensed Associate Attorney to help grow our legal team. We are seeking a licensed Texas attorney with an interest in administrative law who has solid legal research and writing skills, excellent judgment and strong interpersonal skills for interacting with clients, state agencies and team members.
What you should know about us before you apply. We are not your typical small law firm! Our founding and managing attorney is an entrepreneur who is passionate about helping professionals defend their occupational and professional licenses when they are under attack by a regulatory agency. We are small enough that everyone is a critical part of the team, yet big enough to offer a competitive salary with the health and compensation benefits you desire. Our Firm is based in Austin and we serve clients throughout the great state of Texas.
Job Duties:
- Work to assist our clients with protecting and defending occupational licenses when their licenses are under attack by a state agency, board, commission or bar
- Interview clients, gather facts, spot issues, and prepare them for defense
- Develop legal, factual and mitigation-oriented defenses based upon client-provided information, legal research and case posture analysis
- Participate in evidentiary hearings at the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH), assist with Informal Settlement Conferences (ISC) and participate in mediations
- Prepare pleas, pleadings, motions, written discovery (both request and responses) and participate in depositions in preparation for evidentiary hearings before the Administrative Law Judge at the SOAH
- Negotiate with agency staff attorneys and/or agency investigators at the investigative phase
- Assist our clients with preparing written packets in response to complaint notices
- Keep our clients heavily informed about the progress of their case
- Counsel clients on regulatory compliance-related obligations impacting their businesses and licenses and assist them in assessing their operating processes, policies and procedures to reduce the client’s risk profile
Skills & Experience:
- Must possess a current license to practice law in the State of Texas with a record free from any discipline with any State Bar.
- Prior law clerk experience and studies or experience with administrative law is a plus.
- Experience using Lexis-Nexis, Clio Manage, Clio Grow, One-Drive, Chat GPT, MS Word, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel preferred.
Pay and Benefits:
Our Associate Attorney will enjoy a competitive salary based on skills and experience, plus discretionary bonus opportunities and a generous benefit package that includes 401k, Dental, Life, Medical, Vision, PTO, and reimbursement for mandatory CLE and Texas State Bar dues.
