Position Description
The Academic Advisor reports to the Assistant Manager of Academic Advisement. This position is responsible for guiding students through educational options at John A. Logan College, assisting with the selection and enrollment of course offerings, and collaborating with students to ensure academic requirements are met for their program of study. Academic Advisors work with students to accomplish career and educational goals and connect students with College resources.
Education & Experience
Education required: Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
Education preferred: Master’s degree in education or a related field
Experience required: Experience in the community college environment; experience serving diverse student populations
Experience preferred: Work experience in Academic Advisement or another Student Affairs area
Essential Functions & Position Duties
- Provide academic advisement services to JALC students, including but not limited to: advising, registering, maintaining curriculum guides/advising worksheets, evaluating and understanding high school and college transcripts, understanding and discussing the various academic majors available at JALC, providing students with information regarding transfer to other institutions, and completing tentative graduation evaluations prior to students applying for graduation
- Monitor the academic progress of assigned advisees and provide assistance or refer to other campus resources as needed
- Participate in JALC recruitment events, on and off-campus
- Participate in assigned academic department meetings and collaborate with faculty and department chairs regarding course offerings, scheduling, course and program promotion, etc.
- Participate in campus committees and task forces as assigned
- Assist with the ORI 100: College 101 course
Non-essential functions of the position
Other duties as assigned. Duties must be performed on the John A. Logan College campus or a designated location.

9:30 am - 6:00 pm, Monday - Wednesday
8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Thursday - Friday
