Shift: All Shifts (Primary Schedule: Weekdays 6:00 AM – 2:45 PM; weekends as required)
Security Clearance: No Clearance Required
Pay Rate: $27.00 per hour
Position Overview
Hutco, Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Manager with expertise in DDG, LSD, and LHD ship classes to join our Programs Department in Norfolk, Virginia. The Project Manager is responsible for the full project lifecycle from planning through delivery, managing complex ship repair availabilities, coordinating multiple subcontractors, and acting as the primary liaison with customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage multiple complex work items from project development through final delivery.
- Coordinate internal teams, subcontractors, and customer representatives to ensure schedule and cost objectives are met.
- Lead and facilitate regular project team meetings with internal staff, subcontractors, and U.S. Navy representatives.
- Maintain and enter project data into management systems and ensure smooth project execution across departments.
- Develop detailed project plans, task lists, and work effort assessments for assigned work items.
- Identify, assess, and resolve risks or issues that could impact project timelines or success.
- Assist Planning Department in developing job proposals, cost estimates, and work schedules.
- Provide clear, proactive communication across all project stakeholders.
- Maintain overall responsibility for project budgets, schedules, and scope adherence.
- Perform duties onboard ships and within drydocks as needed, including ship checks and monitoring subcontractor activities.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education/Training:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; OR
- Associate degree (AA/AS) plus 2 years of related experience; OR
- 6 years of directly related experience (military experience qualifies).
- Required Experience:
- Direct shipboard repair experience in a public or private shipyard.
- Prior experience managing shipboard activities or engineering tasks within the US Navy or similar field.
- Strong background with DDG, LSD, and LHD ship classes (required).
- Familiarity with both "Cost Type" and "Fixed Type" contract environments is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project).
- Ability to navigate server environments and management databases.
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong leadership, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to coordinate and manage multi-disciplinary teams and subcontractors.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding, and work in confined spaces.
- Frequent standing, walking, stooping, crawling, kneeling, and crouching.
- Ability to work in varied shipyard environments (dust, fumes, varying temperatures).
Unique Requirements
- Must have valid state driver's license and reliable, insurable transportation.
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and travel to remote locations if needed.
- Must qualify for and obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) or DBIDS badge.
- Must have a consistent record of reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required in shipyard environments.
Accountability
- Responsible for successful project execution on-time and on-budget.
- Accountable to the assigned Ship Manager or Lead Manager.
- Expected to maintain strong professional relationships across internal teams and external partners.
