Job Description

We're ALTEN Technology USA, an engineering company helping clients bring groundbreaking ideas to life—from advancing space exploration and life-saving medical devices to building autonomous electric vehicles. With 3,000+ experts across North America, we partner with leading companies in aerospace, medical devices, robotics, automotive, commercial vehicles, EVs, rail, and more.

As part of the global ALTEN Group—57,000+ engineers in 30 countries—we deliver across the entire product development cycle, from consulting to full project outsourcing.

When you join ALTEN Technology USA, you'll collaborate on some of the world's toughest engineering challenges, supported by mentorship, career growth opportunities, and comprehensive benefits. We take pride in fostering a culture where employees feel valued, supported, and inspired to grow.

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Robotics Engineer to support our robotics platform development. This role involves bringing up off-the-shelf sensors, validating data pipelines, and ensuring seamless integration into perception, control, and data fusion systems. You'll work closely with hardware, firmware, and software teams to enable robust, real-time robotic behaviors.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the initialization and functional bring-up of diverse off-the-shelf sensors (e.g., IMUs, depth cameras, tactile sensors, motion capture systems) across various robotic platforms.

  • Investigate and integrate manufacturer-provided SDKs and APIs to unlock advanced sensor features and custom configurations.

  • Capture and validate sample sensor data in real-world and simulated environments to assess signal quality, accuracy, and noise characteristics.

  • Design and implement calibration and data synchronization routines to align sensor outputs with robotic system timebases and coordinate frames.

  • Ensure sensor data formats (e.g., timestamps, units, message schemas) are compatible with downstream software modules including SLAM, perception, control, and sensor fusion frameworks.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with firmware, controls, and software teams to define sensor integration requirements and testing criteria.

  • Build and maintain tools or scripts (primarily in Python) for automated data recording, visualization, and performance benchmarking.

  • Document integration steps, known issues, and performance characteristics for each sensor platform to support reuse and scaling across multiple robotic platforms.

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in robotics, mechatronics, or embedded systems engineering.

  • Strong background in control systems and real-world sensor integration.

  • Proven experience with SDKs/APIs and bridging hardware with software.

  • Programming proficiency in both:

    • A dynamically typed language (e.g., Python)

    • A statically typed language (e.g., C, C++, Java, or Kotlin)

  • Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git), CI/CD practices, and test-driven development.

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Points):

  • Experience with motion capture and sensor ecosystems such as OptiTrack, Manus, StretchSense, Rokoko, or ZED stereo cameras.

  • Familiarity with AR/VR headsets and their associated tracking APIs.

  • Firmware and embedded systems knowledge, including driver-level programming.

  • Experience working with RTOS-based systems for real-time robotics applications.

  • Practical experience with ROS/ROS2, including writing custom nodes or launch files.

  • Solid understanding of hardware communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN).

  • Background in streaming and processing real-time data in high-throughput applications.

Salary Range: $150,000-185,000

The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate's combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience
