Part-Time Independent Living Skills (ILS) Trainer: Job Description

The ILS trainer works one-on-one with people with developmental disabilities to empower individuals to reach their personal goals of independence and community participation. As an ILS trainer for G.E.M. you would live out the program mission by providing Growth, Empowerment, and Motivation to the individuals we serve!

  • As an ILS trainer, you would have a caseload of around 3-6 individuals. The area we serve is Fresno County.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or Autism a plus.
  • This job is a good way to gain experience in the fields of social work, social services, mental health, or case management. We seek applicants who want to make a difference in the lives of others and are both gifted teachers and teachable themselves.
  • You will receive training and have the opportunity to support clients with the following goals:
  • Money management
  • Medical, dental, and medication management
  • Basic cooking and meal preparation
  • Utilizing public transportation
  • Locating affordable housing
  • Obtaining and maintaining benefits such as Social Security, Medi-Cal, Medicare, etc.
  • Community involvement and socialization goals
  • Household maintenance

Work Schedule:

This is a part-time position. You have the opportunity to set your own schedule. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8am-5:30 pm, with the option to work outside of those hours as approved, as long as the hours do not exceed state requirements for part-time (driving time included).

Requirements:

  • A desire to help others.
  • Reliable vehicle.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Auto Insurance (100k/300k bodily injury liability).
  • Pass a DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance.

Compensation: 18.00/hour
