Molecular Biologist
Job Description
The biologist in this role will utilize molecular cloning, transient plant transformation, DNA extraction, DNA sample cleanup, and basic sequence analysis to test recombinase variants for activity and specificity. Candidates should possess hands-on experience in a molecular biology laboratory environment and preferably with plant tissue culture.
Responsibilities
- Perform molecular cloning using techniques such as restriction/ligation and assembly.
- Conduct DNA extraction and purification.
- Execute PCR and qPCR procedures.
- Analyze sequences using basic bioinformatics tools like BLAST, SnapGene, and Geneious.
- Carry out transient plant transformation, for example, Agrobacterium-mediated methods.
- Engage in plant tissue culture, if preferred.
- Understand site-specific recombination systems including Cre/lox and FLP/FRT.
- Evaluate the activity and specificity of recombinase variants.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in molecular cloning techniques.
- Experience in DNA extraction and purification.
- Ability to perform PCR and qPCR.
- Competence in sequence analysis with bioinformatics tools.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience in a molecular biology lab, either academic or industry.
- Familiarity with plant systems is a strong advantage.
- Experience with DNA cleanup kits and protocol troubleshooting.
Work Environment
The role involves working in a molecular biology laboratory setting, requiring attention to detail in experimental design and data recording. The candidate must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. This is a Contract position based out of Chesterfield, MO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
