Job DescriptionPosition Summary
The Youth Activities Instructor creates a safe, fun, and engaging environment for children and teens participating in YMCA programs. This position is responsible for leading age-appropriate activities—including sports, games, fitness, arts, and enrichment—that promote skill-building, confidence, and positive social interaction. Instructors serve as role models, demonstrating the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all interactions.
Key Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and lead youth activities that encourage participation, teamwork, and skill development.

Create an inclusive environment that supports social, emotional, and physical growth for all participants.

Ensure safety and well-being of children by following YMCA policies and maintaining close supervision.

Build strong, positive relationships with youth, parents/guardians, and fellow staff.

Encourage and model positive behavior, respect, and sportsmanship.

Assist with program setup, cleanup, and upkeep of equipment and facilities.

Attend required staff meetings and complete ongoing YMCA trainings.
Qualifications

Minimum age: 16+ (may vary by YMCA policy).

Previous experience working with youth in a group setting preferred.

Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.

Ability to adapt activities for different ages and abilities.

CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications (or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire).
Work Environment & Physical Demands

Ability to actively participate in physical activities (running, bending, lifting light equipment).

Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends as program needs require.
