About the Role:

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) plays a vital role in supporting individuals who require assistance with daily living activities to maintain their independence and quality of life. This position involves providing compassionate, respectful, and personalized care to clients in their homes or care facilities, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. The PCA will work closely with healthcare professionals and family members to implement care plans tailored to each client’s unique needs. Through attentive observation and communication, the PCA helps identify changes in clients’ conditions and reports them promptly to appropriate parties. Ultimately, the PCA contributes significantly to enhancing the physical and emotional health of clients, fostering a supportive and dignified environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a certified PCA training program or equivalent experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if required for client visits).
  • Ability to pass background checks and any required health screenings.
  • Basic knowledge of personal care techniques and safety procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working as a PCA or in a similar caregiving role.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records or care documentation software.
  • Strong understanding of common chronic conditions and disabilities.
  • Bilingual abilities or proficiency in languages commonly spoken in the Athens, GA area.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support.
  • Provide medication reminders and assist with basic health monitoring as directed by healthcare professionals.
  • Prepare meals and assist with feeding, ensuring dietary needs and preferences are met.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe living environment for clients.
  • Observe and document clients’ physical and emotional condition, reporting any concerns or changes to supervisors or healthcare providers.
  • Offer companionship and emotional support to reduce feelings of isolation and promote mental well-being.
  • Follow individualized care plans and adhere to all safety and confidentiality protocols.

The PCA utilizes strong interpersonal and communication skills daily to build trust and rapport with clients and their families, ensuring clear understanding of care needs and preferences. Attention to detail and observational skills are critical for monitoring clients’ health status and identifying any changes that require intervention. Time management and organizational skills help the PCA efficiently balance multiple client needs and responsibilities throughout the day. Physical stamina and dexterity are essential for assisting with mobility and personal care tasks safely and effectively. Additionally, empathy and patience are fundamental skills that enable the PCA to provide compassionate support, fostering a positive and respectful caregiving environment.
