Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail oriented Felt Hat Maker to join our artisan team. The ideal candidate will have experience in traditional hat-making techniques, particularly working with felt materials, and a passion for craftsmanship. This role involves shaping, blocking, trimming, and finishing felt hats to meet design specifications and quality standards. This is a full-time position but we are open to part-time as well.
Key Responsibilities:
Hat Production:
Shape and block felt hats using steam, molds, and hand tools.
Trim and finish hats with ribbons, bands, linings, and other decorative elements.
Maintain consistency in size, shape, and quality across production batches
Material Handling:
Select appropriate felt materials based on design and customer requirements.
Ensure proper storage and care of felt and hat-making tools.
Quality Control:
Inspect finished hats for defects or inconsistencies.
Adjust or repairs as needed to meet quality standards.
Collaboration & Design:
Work with designers to bring hat concepts to life.
Provide input on materials, techniques, and feasibility of designs.
Maintenance & Safety:
Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Follow safety protocols when using steamers, cutting tools, and other equipment.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in hat making, especially with felt materials.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with traditional and modern hat-making tools and techniques.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Creative mindset with a passion for craftsmanship and fashion.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in millinery or fashion design.
- Knowledge of historical hat styles and trends.
- Sewing and pattern-making skills.

Work schedule:
Store hours are 10 Am to 6 Pm Tuesday thru Friday and 10 Am to 5 Pm on Saturday. The store is closed on Sunday and most Mondays. During the Holiday and Rodeo seasons, the store is open on Mondays.
