JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, the Certified Medication Assistant will work in conjunction with the RN/LPN to perform medication management for clients, perform routine medical procedures, triage, coordination of care, and to assist with duties including intakes, transfers and discharges as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Accurately administers and records oral, sublingual, and buccal medications;
- Applies skin ointments and topical medications;
- Accurately tracks, administers, and meticulously records PRN medications including controlled substances to stabilize according to physician’s orders;
- Manages residential client medications in accordance with OSBN regulations and best practices:
- Accurately administers daily medications (prescription or non-prescription) for residential clients within the scope of current licensure/certification;
- Ensures clients take their medications as prescribed;
- Processes new medication orders;
- Updates client electronic medical records (EMR) timely with medications taken and/or med changes;
- Orders medications for clients as needed;
- Completes medication pre-authorizations as needed;
- Accurately administers controlled meds and tapers under supervision of the Nurse and as permitted by current licensure/certification
- Manages medication inventory form – at both intake and discharge;
- Tracks inventory of medications – checking for low supply, expiration dates, etc.
- Inventories all supplies and places orders as needed;
- Takes and records vital signs/daily weights/blood glucose monitoring/insulin/injections;
- Updates the Kitchen staff on client count/dietary needs for meals;
- Coordinates care with PCP office including:
- Notification letter;
- Sets up follow-up PCP appointment for after graduation;
- Assists with ride/transportation coordination for medical visits;
- Triages medical concerns and passes on to Nurse as indicated;
- Records client file notes as appropriate in EHR system in accordance with acceptable standards;
- Cleans nursing station – sweep, mop, wipe down counters, empty trash, etc.;
- Contacts on-call providers as needed for medical concerns;
- Gathers health information to complete intake forms with new residential clients including nutritional screenings, health history and standing orders;
- Reviews medications with client at discharge and ensures client has adequate supply and understanding of meds;
- Provides phlebotomy for routine and stat lab orders if certified;
- Answer phones, review emails and responds as appropriate;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: Must have demonstrated competency or ability to obtain competency within a reasonable period for each of the following:

- Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), EHR databases, virtual meeting platforms, internet, and ability to learn new or updated software;

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma (or equivalent)
- Completed OSBN-accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Current CNA license through OSBN
- Current Certified Medication Assistant certification (CMA) or eligibility/commitment to obtain within six (6) months
- Current BLS/First Aid/AED certification
- Current Oregon Food Handlers Card (in residential)
- Must maintain a valid Oregon Driver License or ability to obtain one upon hire, and be insurable under the organization’s auto liability coverage policy (minimum 21 years of age and with no Type A violations in the past 3 years, or three (3) or more Type B violations)
- For individuals in recovery from substance-use disorder, must have maintained continuous recovery for the previous two (2) years at the time of hire
PREFERRED:
- Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
- Some experience in a healthcare setting a plus
