Land Management

Location:

Central Services - Columbus, MT

Schedule:

5x2, 4x3 9hr Shifts

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide constructive and timely performance feedback when managing direct reports. Hold people accountable in a consistent manner, document performance as required, resolve non-conformance issues, and address employee issues with appropriate resources.
  • Manage contractors and company employees when assigned to leadership roles during projects.
  • Identify potential claim, lease, survey, and geologic/logistical issues before they occur and communicate these issues with all members of the assigned project team.
  • Competent helicopter traveler and understanding of helicopter transport.
  • Expert in all aspects of day-to-day Land Management Geology work including mining claims, mineral surveys, patent certificates, the Mouat Estate, surface claim maintenance, monitoring of adverse claims, keeping maps and claim files current, and log core.
  • Assist with claim and surface work projects within the purview of the Geology Department. Manage and maintain all mining claims related to the current and future business of Sibanye-Stillwater Develop drilling programs to best explore claims.
  • Maintain quality logging and sampling practices. Assure QA/QC standards are being maintained, and if any issues arise, formulate solutions to the problem.
  • Assign and assist in projects as needed. Projects may include water management, surface surveying, geological mapping of surface, underground, and diamond drill. Land Management Geologist may manage small teams to accomplish projects such as surface breakouts, portals, and wells.
  • Act as liaison between Sibanye-Stillwater and external groups.
  • Complete reports and competently file all fees associated with the management and maintenance of mining claims, exploration licenses, and bond status.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience leading improvement initiatives.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, as well as within a team-based environment.
  • Intermediate to advance understanding of MSHA regulations.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Understanding of Stillwater Complex geology, J-M Reef minerology, and regional geologic trends.
  • Expert in understanding and interpreting maps, cross sections, and drilling plans.
  • Utilize computer software, interpret geology, and produce representative maps.

Education & Experience

  • BS, BA or higher Geoscience degree with a minimum of three (3) years of experience on the J-M Reef and ten (10) years of experience in Underground Mine Geology.
