Job DescriptionDescription: Under the General direction of the Competitive Swim Director, the Coach will be responsible for developing youth athletes in all aspects of swimming including mental, psychological and physical development. The Coach is also responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Requirements:
Essential Functions:
- Instructs a group of swimmers in accordance with YMCA guidelines and having prepared practice plans accordingly; while maintaining constant surveillance of all program participants emphasizing the importance of pool safety.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
- Assists in year-round competitions in both YMCA and USA sanctioned swimming events
- Provides positive, encouraging and specific feedback on a daily basis with regard to stoke technique.
- Uses teachable moments to discuss character development and provides constructive feedback during practice session using positive motivation techniques.
- Communicates swim team information to parents in a positive and supportive manner.
- Attends meetings, clinics, banquets, fundraisers and team social functions as required and needed.
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Utilize equipment appropriately with activities and incorporate skill development. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Clean up pool deck after each session. Reports damaged equipment.
- Keeps Competitive Aquatic Director appraised of situations requiring his/her attention.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 18.
- Minimum of 2 years prior experience in competitive aquatic coaching.
- Possess ASCA level 2 certification or higher.
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, ARC Swim Coach Safety Training, First Aid.
- Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding and obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 60 days of hire.
- Oxygen Administration certification (required within 30 days of hire)
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
