Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Thoracic Surgery
Full-Time | Monday–Friday | Outpatient-only role; no nights, weekends, or on-call shifts
Compensation: $135,000–$140,000

Overview
A leading medical center is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support its Thoracic Surgery outpatient division. This role functions as a key member of a multidisciplinary team, managing pre- and post-operative patients and supporting overall clinical operations within the surgical service. You will collaborate with the thoracic surgery team to provide high-quality patient care in the outpatient setting. Responsibilities include patient evaluation, surgical preparation, care coordination, and participation in quality and research initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate care for thoracic surgery patients in the outpatient setting.
- Perform detailed histories and physicals, develop differential diagnoses, and implement care plans.
- Conduct pre-operative evaluations and manage surgical consent processes.
- Order, review, and interpret labs and diagnostic tests under established protocols.
- Manage medication orders and prior authorizations as needed.
- Help create and refine clinical protocols, patient education materials, and standards of practice.
- Support quality initiatives by ensuring compliance with documentation and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with research teams to assist with clinical trials when applicable.
- Contribute to clinical database management to help evaluate and improve patient outcomes.
- Maintain professional growth through continuing education, conferences, and training.
- Perform other clinical and administrative tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Current New York State licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience.
- Ability to conduct comprehensive assessments and manage a patient panel.
- Comfort working within collaborative agreements and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Prior surgical or thoracic experience is preferred but not required—strong new graduates are welcome.
