Job Description

About Us

Ko Martial Arts isn’t the average strip-mall martial arts school or an after-school babysitting program. We don’t do daycare or offer an after school program. We do martial arts, and we take it seriously. Since 2006, we’ve been building something bigger, rooted in discipline, resilience, and character. Our foundation is in Kukkiwon Taekwondo, the global standard for Taekwondo excellence, but we also integrate kickboxing and jiu-jitsu fundamentals for practical self-defense. Families across Johnson County trust us because we don’t just teach kids to kick and punch, we’re shaping them into leaders who can stand tall in a noisy world. Our mission is clear: glorify God, reflect Christ, and help every student become who they were created to be.

Position Summary

We’re looking for a Head Instructor. Not just a class manager. A builder, a driver. Someone decisive, disciplined, and confident. A person who thrives when responsibility is heavy and who takes pride in doing things right. This role is part coach, part mentor, part leader. You’ll set the tone for classes, guide junior staff, sharpen the details others overlook, and have the chance to earn real ownership. Equity. Skin in the game. This isn’t a ceiling job, it’s a growth path.

Responsibilities

  • Teach martial arts classes for kids ages 3-adults, with energy, structure, and precision
  • Lead with Kukkiwon Taekwondo curriculum as the foundation, integrating kickboxing and jiu-jitsu basics for real-world application
  • Set the culture of the classroom, firm, respectful, and motivating
  • Mentor assistants and junior instructors so they grow into leaders
  • Keep training sharp and consistent; details matter here
  • Communicate with parents clearly and confidently
  • Drive engagement and retention so kids stick with the program
  • Uphold Ko Martial Arts’ standards of excellence in curriculum, discipline, and presentation
  • Support outreach and events that help the school grow
  • Take ownership of the overall student and family experience

You Might Be the Right Fit If…

  • You’re a Black Belt in Taekwondo (required)
  • You have experience teaching kids and you actually enjoy it
  • You’re confident, assertive, and highly disciplined
  • You pay close attention to details, whether in technique or class management
  • You thrive on responsibility, not just routine
  • You want to help build something meaningful and be rewarded for the impact you make
  • The idea of long-term equity or studio ownership motivates you

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience and results
  • Performance bonuses tied to growth and retention
  • Opportunity for equity or ownership based on performance
  • Health insurance
  • Simple IRA with employer matching
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Ongoing leadership and professional development
  • Work with a mission-driven, high-performing team
  • Flexible schedule with long-term growth potential
  • Relocation assistance for qualified candidates

Why Johnson County, Kansas?

This is one of the fastest-growing counties in the Midwest. It’s family-focused, safe, and full of excellent schools. The median household income is north of $100k, and families here invest in their children’s development, perfect for a premium program like Ko Martial Arts. It’s also home to the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, so sports culture runs deep.

On top of that, the cost of living is far lower than places like Los Angeles, New York, or Chicago. Housing, groceries, and daily expenses stretch further here, while you still get the energy of a metro area with professional opportunities, entertainment, and culture.

And the weather? Kansas City has the perfect mix of all four seasons without being too extreme. Crisp falls, bright springs, warm, but manageable summers, and winters that bring a little snow but rarely overwhelm. It’s a balanced climate that lets you enjoy the outdoors year-round.

How to Apply

Send your resume, but don’t just send paper. Write a short note about why you’re the right fit. Share a story of how you’ve helped a student grow. And tell us what ownership means to you, not just in business, but in life.
