MAIN FUNCTION: The Psychologist will provide psychological assessments, psychotherapy, and counseling services to individuals with mental health and behavioral health disorders. This role involves working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care that supports clients in their journey to recovery and wellness.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations, including diagnostic assessments, neuropsychological testing, and risk assessments for individuals with mental health and substance use concerns.
- Use evidence-based assessment tools to evaluate cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning and develop accurate clinical diagnoses.
- Provide detailed psychological reports that include findings, diagnosis, and recommendations for treatment and interventions.
- Provide individual and group therapy to clients with mental health conditions, using evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and other therapeutic interventions.
- Work with clients to develop treatment plans that are personalized to meet their unique psychological, emotional, and social needs.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed for individuals experiencing acute distress, including assessments for risk of harm to self or others.
- Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team (including psychiatrists, social workers, APRNs, case managers, and other behavioral health professionals) to coordinate and integrate care.
- Participate in case reviews, team meetings, and treatment planning sessions to ensure holistic, client-centered care and support the goals of the treatment team.
- Consult with other healthcare providers and agencies as needed to ensure continuity of care and assist with referrals for additional services or resources.
- Provide psychoeducation to clients and their families regarding mental health conditions, treatment options, coping strategies, and community resources.
- Empower clients by helping them develop skills to manage their symptoms, improve functioning, and achieve their personal goals.
- Educate clients on mental health recovery principles and provide ongoing support in achieving long-term well-being.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of assessments, treatment plans, therapy notes, progress reports, and other client-related records in the agencys electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Ensure that all documentation is completed in a timely and professional manner, adhering to HIPAA and agency policies on confidentiality and record-keeping.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including CCBHC accreditation requirements and state/federal mental health guidelines.
- Assess and manage crisis situations involving clients in acute mental health distress, providing appropriate interventions and referrals as needed.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans for clients at risk of self-harm or harm to others.
- Provide emergency psychological services, including working with clients in crisis and providing appropriate interventions, including hospitalization if necessary.
- Provide supervision and mentorship to less experienced staff, including interns, case managers, or other mental health professionals as part of professional development and training.
- Share expertise on psychological assessment and therapy, helping to guide and develop other team members skills.
- Stay current with new developments in psychological research and evidence-based treatment methods.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of clinical services and client outcomes.
- Contribute to the development of new clinical programs and strategies that improve the delivery of care within the CCBHC model.
- Assist in outreach efforts to educate the community about available mental health services and reduce stigma related to behavioral health issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical or Program Director.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Strong clinical skills in psychological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
- Proficiency in evidence-based therapy models such as CBT, DBT, and other recognized modalities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and communicate effectively with other healthcare providers.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and treatment planning.
- Ability to provide trauma-informed care and demonstrate sensitivity to clients diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Proficient with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and other clinical tools
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and families in a community behavioral health setting.
- Familiarity with substance use treatment and integrated care models.
- Bilingual skills (preferred but not required).
- Possess a valid drivers license and an insurable driving record.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in psychology from an accredited program.
- Current, valid licensure as a psychologist in Nebraska.
- If applicable, a supervised post-doctoral experience and completion of required continuing education for licensure renewal.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in providing psychological services, including assessment and therapy, particularly in a behavioral health or community-based setting.
- Experience with individuals facing complex mental health issues, including serious mental illnesses (SMI), co-occurring disorders, and substance use issues, is preferred.
- Experience in crisis intervention and risk management.
- Familiarity with the CCBHC model and/or community-based mental health services is highly desirable.
