About the Job:
As the Electrical Instrumentation and Controls General Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing all electrical instrumentation and control systems within our mining operations. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of electrical equipment and processes, as well as the optimization of our control systems to enhance productivity and minimize downtime.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management:
- Provide strong leadership to the electrical instrumentation and controls team, including technicians and engineers.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize team performance, productivity, and morale.
- Foster a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement within the department.
- Electrical Systems Maintenance and Repair:
- Oversee the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all electrical systems, including power distribution, motors, lighting, and communication networks.
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs to minimize unplanned downtime and ensure equipment reliability.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to prioritize and schedule repairs, inspections, and upgrades.
- Instrumentation and Control Systems Management:
- Manage and optimize the performance of instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs, DCS, and HMIs.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design, install, and commission new control systems and instrumentation upgrades.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments of control systems to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Project Management:
- Lead electrical instrumentation and controls projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to budget, timeline, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, contractors, and vendors to procure materials, equipment, and services as needed.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance during project planning, execution, and commissioning phases.
- Training and Development:
- Develop and deliver training programs for electrical instrumentation and controls personnel to enhance their skills, knowledge, and competencies.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements related to electrical instrumentation and controls.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field. Advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., P.E., PMP) preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical instrumentation and controls, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role within the mining or heavy industry.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems used in mining operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively manage teams and collaborate across departments.
- Proven track record of successfully leading complex projects from conception to completion.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA, ISA).
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and enterprise asset management (EAM) software preferred.
