The Specialty Rigging Foreman is responsible for leading field crews in the safe and efficient execution of heavy rigging projects, including the movement, installation, and removal of large equipment, structural components, and specialty items. This role ensures that all rigging activities meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction while maintaining schedule and budget goals.
Key Responsibilities

Crew Leadership & Supervision

Direct and supervise rigging crews, ironworkers, and equipment operators on job sites.

Coordinate daily tasks, assign responsibilities, and monitor productivity to meet project milestones.

Conduct pre-task planning, job hazard analyses, and safety briefings.

Rigging Operations
-
Oversee the rigging, lifting, moving, and installation of heavy equipment (e.g., chillers, switchgear, sculptures, mechanical systems).

Review engineered rigging plans and ensure proper execution.

Verify rigging gear, cranes, and equipment are properly inspected and certified.

Safety & Compliance

Enforce strict adherence to OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and client-specific requirements.

Maintain an EMR (Experience Modification Rate) culture of <1 through proactive risk management.

Ensure all crew members use appropriate PPE and follow safe lifting practices.

Project Coordination

Communicate with project managers, general contractors, and clients to align schedules and site logistics.

Coordinate crane scheduling, trucking, and storage logistics.

Prepare daily reports, time sheets, and equipment usage logs.

Quality Control

Ensure all work meets or exceeds specifications and customer expectations.

Identify and resolve potential issues to prevent delays or cost overruns.

Qualifications
-
Experience
-
Minimum 5 years of heavy rigging, crane, or structural steel experience.

At least 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role preferred.

Skills & Certifications

Strong understanding of rigging techniques, load charts, and equipment capacities.

Ability to read blueprints, rigging plans, and lift drawings.

OSHA 30 and NCCCO (or equivalent) certifications strongly preferred.

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive hourly wage consistent with Ironworkers Local 5 foreman rates (including premiums and benefits per collective bargaining agreement).

Overtime paid in accordance with union rates and rules.
