Job Summary
The Head Instructor at 1st Class Martial Arts plays a key leadership role in ensuring student retention, developing assistant instructors, and maintaining a culture of excellence, teamwork, and discipline. This role requires delivering top-tier martial arts instruction, inspiring students of all ages, fostering teamwork, and aligning with the school’s mission of promoting personal development, confidence, and respect.
Key Responsibilities
Student Retention & Engagement
- Prioritize student growth and retention through personalized instruction and relationship building.
- Monitor and track progress, ensuring each student develops skills and character.
- Apply strategies that maintain a student quit rate of 5% or less (based on monthly cancellations vs. tuition collected).
- Support school growth to 350 students by the end of the 2024–2025 school year.
Instructor Leadership & Development
- Provide leadership, training, and feedback to 10–15 assistant instructors.
- Assign roles and responsibilities to maximize class effectiveness and smooth operations.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and foster professional growth opportunities.
Classroom Instruction & Management
- Lead fun, structured, and engaging martial arts classes with energy and enthusiasm.
- Assign a second instructor to classes of 10+ students for individualized attention.
- Ensure classes are organized, efficient, and end on time.
- Incorporate creativity and innovation to enhance instruction.
Teamwork & Communication
- Foster an environment of respect, collaboration, and open communication among staff.
- Communicate clearly with students, parents, and colleagues, using positive tone and professionalism.
- Listen actively to feedback and respond constructively.
Customer Service & Community
- Provide outstanding service to students and families to ensure satisfaction and loyalty.
- Communicate regularly with parents about student progress, events, and programs.
- Celebrate student milestones through belt tests, ceremonies, and special events.
Delegation & Operations
- Delegate non-classroom duties to assistants to focus on student development.
- Ensure training areas are clean, safe, and organized.
- Promote leadership opportunities for assistants by entrusting operational tasks.

Position Details
- Type: Part-Time (10–20 hours/week, 2–3 days/week) with growth potential to full-time.
- Schedule: Monday–Saturday.
- Location: Current school in Torrance, CA with expansion to a new location within 6–10 miles.
- Compensation: Competitive pay based on experience.

Covenant Against Disclosure & Competition
Confidential Information Nondisclosure
The Instructor agrees to maintain all proprietary and confidential information in strict confidence during and for two (2) years after employment. Disclosure of such information, whether intentional or not, is strictly prohibited.
Covenant Not to Compete
During employment and for two (2) years after termination, the instructor may not engage in or operate a martial arts school, or provide substantially similar instruction or services, within a 10–15-mile radius of any 1st Class Martial Arts location.
Enforcement
1st Class Martial Arts reserves the right to pursue legal remedies, including injunctive relief and monetary damages, in the event of a breach of this covenant.
