Job Title: Davenport Screw Machine Setup Technician

Labor Grade: 6 | Department: 1200 | Location: Corporate | Revision: 00

Immediate Leader: Plant Supervisor

A day in the life

You arrive to your cell, review the job card and scanner input for the day, and set up multi-spindle Davenport equipment for the next run. You select the right materials, install and adjust tooling, and perform daily lubrication, cleaning, and chip removal. After dialing in the first piece, you verify dimensions with precision measuring instruments and an optical comparator, log results in attribute and SPC charts, and move material to the next operation with proper documentation.

Throughout the shift, you monitor machine performance, make minor mechanical adjustments, and collaborate with your supervisor, engineering, and maintenance to resolve issues quickly. You keep the area organized, maintain strong safety habits, and pitch in on additional machines when business needs demand it. Before end-of-shift, you complete suspect sheets if needed, split lots appropriately, and ensure records are accurate in our systems.

What you’ll do

  • Set up and run Davenport screw machines to meet quality and productivity targets.
  • Interpret shop drawings and process sheets to guide setup and inspection.
  • Use precision measuring instruments; perform attribute and SPC charting.
  • Document lot splits and complete job card/scanner inputs accurately.
  • Lubricate, clean, and remove chips on assigned machines daily.
  • Select tools and materials; perform minor machine maintenance and adjustments.
  • Troubleshoot routine issues; partner with supervisor, engineering, and maintenance.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Support other machines as needed.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Typically 1–3 years of related experience. Able to read, write, and apply simple shop mathematics.

Language Ability: Read and interpret shop drawings, process sheets, safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; solid communication skills.

Math Ability: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; work to close tolerances.

Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions; work cooperatively as a respectful team member.

Computer Skills: Learn to operate the computer systems used at Driv-Lok.

The employee will be working with Automatic machines, precision measuring instruments, hand and fork lift trucks, scoops, weight scales, and copy machine.
