Job Description:

The Sr Analytical Chemist position is to support the development of synthesis and formulation process development and process introduction to the North Carolina sites. This includes method development and validation of all appropriate analytical testing, capabilities and procedures.

Essential Functions:

· Act as analytical focal point for assigned business area, monitor and manage workload with support from the analytical manager.

· Responsible for providing analytical service to assigned business area, develop new methodologies and provide technical solutions/advice when required.

· Method development in complex matrices and blends, e.g. full characterizations.

· Troubleshooting production issues, low yield, unstable or out of specification product.

· Customer complaints, e.g. contaminated product, which requires identifying the exact contaminant and investigating the possible source, can have legal implications, so due diligence is required.

· The role requires continuously improving analytical skills and capability; there is a detailed training plan and schedule for analytical team members.

· Exploratory suitable solutions they devise as well as daily standard operating procedures

· Workload is prioritized with internal customers and the Technical Manager; priorities are often changed at short notice so a methodical approach is required to ensure that reprioritised work can be picked up again later with the minimum of disruption.

· A wide range of equipment is available to the section and cross training on all the equipment is a requirement.

· Analytical equipment maintenance and upkeep is assigned to various members, duties include, general maintenance, consumables stocks and ordering, service contracts, engineer callouts

· Safety representatives for specific laboratories, maintenance of records, risk assessments, safety equipment, accident and near miss reporting and associated corrective actions.

· Route searching by literature for appropriate synthetic methods with guidance

· Route evaluation in laboratory with guidance

· Scale-up to pilot plant and to full-scale plant of manufacturing routes to new products and improvements with guidance and as part of a team

· Improvement of existing product chemistries

· Improvement of existing processes

· Development of understanding of chemical reactions occurring during our processes

· Application of good chemical understanding to practical problems

Role Requirements:

· Knowledge of a wide range of analytical techniques including method development and a high degree of expertise in at least two of the following areas: Chromatography, spectroscopy, thermal, physical, mass spectrometry, microscopy.

· Includes wet analytical techniques: titration, solids, salts, activity.

· Excellent communication skills – oral, written and presentational

· Understanding of reaction mechanisms, kinetics and basic chemical reaction principles

· This position requires good synthetic chemistry skill with creative and methodical thinking
