Pay Range: $77-$96/hour depending on years of experience and benefits package.

Job Description

The purpose of this position is to provide essential technical knowledge and perform design work as described below. This position serves as an Area Lead Designer or staff designer performing assignments of advanced complexity.

  • Under general supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Design Supervisor, serve as an Area Lead Designer providing guidance/supervision to designers
  • Prepare and check designs of advanced complexity utilizing 3D modeling and 2D computer- aided drafting and design (CADD) automation tools
  • Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors and clients
  • Execute work in compliance with Project Quality Plan and procedures
  • Execute work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost and schedule baselines
  • Perform bulk material take-off analysis and tabulations
  • Provide technical support to activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting including review of vendor submittals
  • Provide technical support to activities associated with construction administration including response to construction requests-for-information and field changes
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Job Requirements

  1. U.S. Citizenship required
  2. S3D Required
  3. Minimum fifteen (10) years of work-related experience designing HVAC or plumbing systems
  4. Working knowledge of applicable federal (including Department of Energy orders), state, and local codes and standards
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to project management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors
  6. Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
  7. Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards
  8. Ability to perform work in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes, statutes and guidelines
  9. Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
  10. Intermediate computer and software skills to include proficiency in the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
  11. Significant experience providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services on large industrial projects
  12. Proficiency executing large engineering projects utilizing 3D modeling and 2D CADD automation tools in a multi-discipline environment

Discipline Specific Job Requirements

  1. Proficiency utilizing 3D modeling and 2D CADD automation tools in the design of HVAC or plumbing systems
  2. 3D modeling of HVAC equipment and ductwork
  3. Development of 2D duct plans from the 3D model
  4. Development of 2D sections, details and HVAC schedules

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Associate degree in related technical field of study
  2. Experience with design of systems, structures and components for nuclear facilities under the requirements of ASME NQA-1
  3. Knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials
  4. Practical field experience
  5. EPC project experience for the following industries:
    1. U.S Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government Agency
    2. Nuclear facilities under a nuclear quality assurance program
    3. Manufacturing, pharmaceutical or biotechnology
  6. Advanced knowledge and proficiency using Intergraph Smart3D (S3D) software with minimum 3 years of experience
