Our client, a steel fabrication company, is seeking a Senior Estimator to join their team.
Position Summary
The Senior Estimator prepares and coordinates detailed cost estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel projects while ensuring accuracy, consistency, and risk awareness across bids. This role bridges technical estimating expertise with leadership support, acting as a standard for other estimators and contributing to strategy and process improvement.
Responsibilities
• Lead the preparation and coordination of estimates for complex projects, ensuring complete and traceable takeoffs using estimating software.
• Review and validate estimates prepared by junior estimators; provide constructive feedback and guidance to improve accuracy and efficiency.
• Issue and track RFIs to General Contractors; ensure all responses are integrated into final pricing.
• Collect, level, and compare vendor, subcontractor, and supplier quotes for accuracy and completeness.
• Analyze company data, monitor budgets and prices using software packages.
• Identify labor, material, costs and time requirements by researching proposals, blueprints, and any related documents.
• Prepare detailed cost estimate reports and present job Recaps and bid summaries to the Estimating Manager and President when requested.

Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s in Construction Management, Engineering or related field or equivalent experience in construction/steel estimating.
• Minimum 8 years of experience estimating structural/miscellaneous steel (Medical, Commercial, Industrial, Higher Education project experience preferred).
• Strong knowledge of structural steel design, fabrication, and erection practices, AISC codes, AWS welding standards.
• Experience soliciting and leveling vendor/subcontractor quotes and preparing complete cost estimate reports.
• Hands-on RFIs, scope reviews, and budget monitoring within estimating software.
Preferred
• Proficient with Trimble PowerFab estimating software or equivalent.
• Analytical, detail-oriented, and rigorous with risk assessment and cost validation.
• Experience mentoring, training, or leading junior or entry level estimators.
• Clear communicator who collaborates effectively with GCs, subs, and leadership.
