Job DescriptionSalary: The incoming salary range for this role is $79,700-$91,300, with growth potential to $79,700- $101,000. Salary is commensurate with experience.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) is a private, not-for-profit organization established in 1952 to provide a uniform date of appointment to positions in graduate medical education (GME) in the United States. The NRMP is not an application processing service; rather, it provides an impartial venue for matching applicants and programs preferences for each other consistently. The NRMP conducts the annual Main Residency Match encompassing 40,000 applicants for more than 25,000 positions in core residencies as well as Matches for fellowship positions in over 65 subspecialties through its Specialties Matching Service.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Quantitative Research Analyst will support the implementation of the NRMPs growing research agenda. This position will support the development of data collection tools; perform data management and manipulation to produce analytic data sets; conduct statistical analyses; present results using appropriate data visualization tools and contribute to the preparation of scientific products such as manuscripts to be submitted to peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, and reports to be published on the NRMP web site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inform the construction of NRMP surveys to ensure both accessibility and accuracy of survey data.
  • Create analytic data sets merging variables from internal (e.g., NRMP Data Warehouse) and external data sources, using advanced data management and manipulation techniques as necessary to yield compatible formats of source data (e.g., wide vs. long; consistency of character versus numeric identifiers).
  • Develop, implement, and document data cleaning, error checking, and recoding, and composite variable creation programs using SAS to facilitate a broad range of statistical analyses.
  • Support Director of Research and/or Senior Research Analysts in developing analytic
  • Execute and thoroughly document statistical analyses at varying levels of complexity to address research questions identified by NRMP staff, the Board of Directors, or other external stakeholders, writing SAS code independently and drawing insights from the data.
  • Export analytic data sets from SAS into other file formats that are usable by other NRMP departments (e.g., CSV, XLS, etc.).
  • Support the Director of Research and executive leadership in creating or updating spreadsheets, tables, charts, and graphs as needed for publications and presentations.
  • Draft relevant sections of manuscripts, g., analysis subsection of Methods, text of Results.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Research and/or Senior Research Analysts in drafting deliverables involving the translation of scientific/statistical concepts to a variety of audiences.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Masters Degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, quantitative psychology, or a similar discipline is required.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience involving management and manipulation of large data sets, including cleaning, error checking, recoding, and composite variable creation, as well as creation of codebooks and similar documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and visualize results in formats appropriate to scientific products such as manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal submissions, research briefs, conference presentations, Board reports, and other scientific product formats.
  • Experience with undergraduate and graduate medical education and the residency selection process is preferred.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship or restriction.
  • Resides in the United States and ability to work remotely with occasional overnight travel.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Demonstrated proficiency in extracting data from diverse sources and using advanced data manipulation techniques to construct analytic data sets in SAS.
  • Advanced skills in programming, implementing, and documenting complex statistical analyses of large data sets using SAS, ranging from descriptive statistics to linear and logistic regression, generalized linear models, and multilevel models. Expertise in use of SAS macro language is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytic and critical thinking skills, oral and written communication skills, and ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.


PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Demonstrated proficiency in extracting data from diverse sources and using advanced data manipulation techniques to construct analytic data sets in R.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in programming, implementing, and documenting complex statistical analyses of large data sets using R, ranging from descriptive statistics to linear and logistic regression, generalized linear models, and multilevel models.

This position is a remote position that is primarily sedentary with prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working at a computer. There may be infrequent overnight travel for staff events or NRMP conferences.
