Position: Machine Operator (All Levels)

Reports To: Department Team Lead

Location: Irwindale, CA

Pay: $18.50 - $22.50

Note: This range encompasses various levels of experience. Compensation will be determined based on the candidate's skills and experience, with the position level assessed during the interview process.

Position Summary:
The Machine Operator is a key role within our manufacturing plants, responsible for operating and maintaining critical equipment such as the sealing machine, Atlas Operator, ABL Operator, Past Operator, Clean Room Operator, T400, check weigher, metal detector, bagger, and label printer. This position plays a pivotal role in optimizing line efficiencies by increasing production, reducing rework, and minimizing downtime. Machine Operators support production team leads in driving operations to the highest safety, quality, and efficiency standards while adhering to the Company’s RCE philosophy.
Working in a refrigerated production environment, this role requires versatility and exposure to multiple areas, ensuring all equipment runs correctly and efficiently. Additionally, Machine Operators are accountable for meeting productivity goals, maintaining product specifications, and championing maintenance and operational excellence.

What you will Do:

-Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections for quality, machine lubricant, sanitization, and proper equipment setup.Operate and maintain equipment such as sealers, baggers (Hayssen), Atlas Operator, ABL Operator, Past Operator, Clean Room Operator, and other production machinery.
-Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs to ensure efficient equipment operation.
-Execute start-up and shutdown procedures, including setting up baggers and other equipment per specifications.
-Validate product quality through visual checks for defects, size, color, and other specifications. Certify bags meet product and order requirements (air testing, seals, code dates, weight, nitrogen, volume, etc.).
-Manage and reduce waste (e.g., product giveaway) by utilizing scale systems and optimizing efficiency.
-Maintain uninterrupted production flow, manage changeovers, and minimize downtime.
-Ensure compliance with GMP, PPE, SQF, HACCP, Sanitation, and safety guidelines and processes.
-Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to 5S methodology.
-Lift and carry forming tubes and film rolls (up to 50 lbs) for equipment setup and adjustments.
-Customize and monitor chemical mixtures to prevent spoilage and ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
-Communicate effectively with team members to maintain production quality and flow.
-Monitor and understand production KPIs (production rates, quality, safety) and support continuous improvement initiatives.
-Work in a fast-paced, cold, and wet production environment while maintaining safety and efficiency.
-Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Ability to read, write, and speak English; comprehension of basic math.
-GED/High School Diploma.
-Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
-Reliability and eagerness to learn.
-Willingness and flexibility to work in a cold, wet, fast-paced, 24-hour plant environment.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-Ability to deliver consistent quality results with urgency and initiative.
-Capability to be cross-trained and multitask in multiple positions.
-At least 6 months of related experience or on-the-job training
-Level III and Above: Minimum of 3 years of experience with mechanical systems, including a solid understanding of scale systems (e.g., Ishida and Yamato) and bagger equipment (e.g., Hayssen).
-Knowledge of GMPs, safety guidelines, HACCP, and sanitation processes.
-Basic computer skills.
-Understanding of plant KPIs (production, quality, and safety).
-Ability to assist in training others.
-Flexible schedule and adaptability to a fast-paced environment.

Physical Work Environment:
-Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be required to perform repetitive movements (i.e., loading bowls into tray carrier). The associate regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
-Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
-Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
-Ability to move about within a fast paced environment in/outside facility, and traverse between maintenance shop & production floor.
-Ability to ascend/descend on stairs/ladder for repairs
-Ability to position self to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
-Ability to frequently move, push, or carry items up to 50lbs
-Exposed to a cold & wet environment of 34 degrees.
-Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions
Must be able to exchange accurate information through frequent communications within all levels of the organization
Must be able to detect, identify, inspect, observe, and assess surroundings
