About the Role:
As an MRI Technologist at Bloomington Medical Services (BMS01), you will play a critical role in the diagnostic imaging process by operating magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce high-quality images for patient diagnosis and treatment planning. You will work closely with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate imaging results while maintaining patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure. This position requires a thorough understanding of MRI technology, anatomy, and pathology to optimize imaging protocols and troubleshoot technical issues. You will also be responsible for preparing patients for scans, explaining procedures, and monitoring patients during imaging to address any concerns or adverse reactions. Ultimately, your expertise will contribute to timely and accurate diagnoses that support effective patient care within the healthcare team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited MRI Technologist program.
- Current certification as an MRI Technologist (e.g., ARRT MRI certification).
- Valid state licensure to practice as an MRI Technologist, if applicable.
- Strong knowledge of MRI safety protocols and patient care standards.
- Demonstrated ability to operate MRI equipment and perform imaging procedures accurately.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a hospital or outpatient imaging center setting.
- Additional certifications in related imaging modalities (e.g., CT or radiography).
- Familiarity with advanced MRI techniques such as functional MRI or cardiac MRI.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and imaging software systems. Meditech experience a plus.
- Strong communication skills for effective patient interaction and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Operate MRI scanners to capture detailed images of patients’ internal structures according to prescribed protocols.
- Prepare and position patients appropriately for MRI procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Review imaging results for quality and completeness before submitting them to radiologists for interpretation.
- Maintain and calibrate MRI equipment regularly to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to discuss imaging needs and provide technical support during diagnostic evaluations.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines related to MRI technology, including screening patients for contraindications such as metal implants.
- Document patient information, imaging procedures, and any observations accurately in medical records.
- Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with advances in MRI technology and best practices.
Skills:
The required skills enable the MRI Technologist to operate complex imaging equipment safely and efficiently while ensuring patient comfort and compliance with safety standards. Technical proficiency is essential for adjusting imaging parameters and troubleshooting equipment issues to produce clear diagnostic images. Strong interpersonal skills are used daily to explain procedures to patients, alleviate anxiety, and obtain cooperation during scans. Attention to detail is critical when reviewing images for quality and documenting patient information accurately. Preferred skills such as familiarity with advanced imaging techniques and EMR systems enhance the technologist’s ability to support specialized diagnostic needs and streamline workflow within the healthcare environment.
