Job Summary:Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN) is a Bay Area non-profit organization founded in 1996 and focused on helping individuals with special needs and their families find love, hope, respect, and support through integrated community involvement.
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Social Recreation Program Assistant to support our social recreation programs for individuals with diverse needs. In this part-time role, you will work closely with the Social Recreation Program Coordinator to organize and facilitate engaging activities and events that positively impact participants' lives. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player with a positive attitude, creativity, and a strong understanding of the unique needs of our community. You will play an essential role in creating enjoyable and meaningful experiences that foster a welcoming and supportive environment, and you will help facilitate weekend social recreation programs.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Coordination and Facilitation:
- Lead and support engaging social recreation activities and events, ensuring they are enjoyable and impactful for participants.
Program Instruction:
- Assist with or lead the instruction of classes and activities, offering guidance and support to participants as needed.
Client and Volunteer Documentation:
- Maintain accurate client files and records.
- Manage sign-in/sign-out sheets for participants and volunteers.
- Track and record client progress, sharing key observations with the Program Supervisor.
Communication:
- Inform families and volunteers about upcoming programs and events.
- Address inquiries or concerns from families and volunteers in a timely manner.
Volunteer Management:
- Recruit, motivate, and train volunteers to ensure successful program delivery.
- Track and verify volunteer hours and provide hour verification upon request.
- Recognize and appreciate volunteer contributions.
Program Setup and Cleanup:
- Prepare spaces and materials for activities.
- Ensure the facility is clean, organized, and safe before, during, and after each session.
Participant Support:
- Build positive connections with participants, creating a supportive and encouraging environment.
- Address individual participant needs with patience, providing behavior management support when necessary.
- Notify parents and the Program Supervisor if additional support is needed.
Documentation and Feedback:
- Capture photos/videos of key moments and highlights.
- Prepare and distribute feedback surveys to participants and families to improve future programs.
Event Support:
- Assist with special events and outreach programs (e.g., Talent Show, Drama Camp, Music Camp, Resource Festival) as needed.
Facility Operations:
- Open/close the facility as required.
- Operate the alarm system and follow security procedures.
- Adjust the heating/air conditioning for a comfortable environment during activities.
Program Administration:
- Assist with managing registrations, enrollment lists, and monthly client billing.
- Create and distribute flyers and weekly updates for participants and families.
- Keep the Social Recreation and Enrichment program website up to date.
- Collaborate with the Administration and Accounting teams to ensure smooth program

Education: High school diploma required
