Job DescriptionJob Title: Mold Maker & Repairer

Location: Elgin, IL


Job Summary

The Mold Maker is responsible for designing, fabricating, repairing, and maintaining precision molds used in manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die-casting, and metal forming. This role requires advanced technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently on complex projects to ensure molds meet exact specifications and production requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Fabrication
    • Interpret and implement blueprints, CAD models, and technical drawings.
    • Repair molds and tooling using CNC machines, manual mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM equipment.
    • Assemble and test molds to ensure dimensional accuracy and functionality.
  • Maintenance & Repair
    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on molds and related tooling.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve mold defects, wear issues, and mechanical failures.
    • Document all repairs, modifications, and maintenance activities.
  • Quality & Compliance
    • Inspect molds using precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, optical comparators).
    • Ensure compliance with ISO quality standards and safety regulations.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Collaboration
    • Work closely with engineering and production teams to optimize mold performance.
    • Provide technical guidance and support for mold-related issues on the shop floor.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or technical certification in Tool & Die or Mold Making is a plus
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5+ years of experience in mold making or mold maintenance.
    • Proven expertise in CNC + manual machining, CAD software, and mold fabrication techniques.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of mold design principles and materials.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and tolerances.
    • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
    • Manual dexterity and ability to perform precision work.
    • Comfortable working with computers and third party vendors

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
